Hideo Kojima did it again. Whilst promoting the release of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater on the Spanish TV Station Plus.es, he mentioned the MSX computer system. The evidence of this cool MSX in the Media event can be found online, in RealPlayer and Windows Media stream right here. After about 2 minutes and 8 seconds, the MSX computer comes up.

Of course, this has been added to the list of nominees of the MSX in the Media Challenge. As there already was a nomination for Hideo Kojima mentioning MSX whilst promoting MGS3, this special TV appearance of Hideo Kojima has been added to the 7th nomination.

Did you see Hideo Kojima mentioning MSX in other media? Did you get or spot MSX in the media? Let us know by sending a mail to msxmedia@msx.org and we'll add it to the list of nominees.

Probably while summing up the releases of previous Metal Gear games. In such cases I'd say it's talk about history, and doesn't have any impulse on the current MSX scene/market, and thus would be an invalid 'MSX in the media challenge' nominee.

But I'm probably misunderstanding the whole concept of MSX in the media challenge ;p

There's not really a single concept to the MSX in the Media challenge. If MSX gets in the media (even mentioned briefly by Hideo Kojima), it's a valid nominee... in essence. Wink

About MSX he says:

"In the first Metal Gear, Konami asked me to make an action game in which you must shoot a lot of enemies. But with the limited hardware of MSX, it was difficult to show many enemies on the screen. So I decided to change the strategy and I made instead a game in which you have to hide from the enemy. (...) Luckily, Konami always gives me a lot of freedom when developing my games, the final decisions are always mine."

Another nice interview with Kojima:

INTERVIEW: SHARING SNAKE WITH HIDEO KOJIMA

Were you worried about getting rid of the radar in Snake Eater and getting players to rely more on their senses?

Hideo Kojima: I had initial concerns. It was a split decision even within the team. The thing about the radar is when I originally came up with the game Metal Gear in 1987 and then Metal Gear 2 in 1990, the hardware didn't allow games to scroll. That's why we originally created the radar, so that the player could see the positions of enemies who are outside the screen. I guess the radar in Metal Gear Solid and Sons of Liberty are residuals of that.
