Spanish manufactor 8bits4ever is assembling another batch of their all time favourite flash cartridge. Same as last time they are accepting preorders so hopefully everybody can get their C2 cartridge, and just like last time, there will be a limited number of units available.
These pre-order units will start shipping by the 1st/2nd week December 2019, just before Christmas.

For those who dont know it yet, the Carnivore2 is an amazing piece of hardware for MSX machines designed by the Russian Bear Service Crew (RBSC).

The cartridge features 8Mb flashROM for loading ROMs, 1Mb Ram expansion, CF memory card slot, MSXMusic and SCC+ sound with a convenient 3.5mm jack audio output. For complete specs please visit the product page or our wiki page.

A must have for every MSX user!

Is it possible yet to sort the roms in flash memory?
It is very annoying you can only have them in the order you added them...

The latest boot block can sort the entries. Also it has interface color and speed setup. We are also working on a proper file manager for the cartridge.

Awesome pic in the news! Love it!

Is there a good enough reason to use this vs. MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD?

One of reasons: it is more configurable. You can use it as just 1024K memory mapper, or as just IDE interface, or just an OPLL etc. Also with MFR you have to flash game and if you want to play other game you reflash it or make a multirom (then to add new game or remove old you have to reflash all multirom anyways) - with C2 you just add/remove particular entry. C2 has dedicated sound output via 3.5mm jack. While the rest might be a matter of taste or habit, this is what first come to mind if you think about differences (i own both C2 and MFR). Also CF cards are usually faster (but SD are cheaper and more available, otoh) - i have noticed better speed while using MultiMente if a directory have a lot of files.

It is also open-source - so for FPGA/VHDL hackers - you can make your own changes in the firmware and you only need USB Altera blaster to flash it and try Wink

The main reason I would buy is the 8MB of FlashROM, so I can play with Pointless Fighting and many games of Kay Magazine.

With Carnivore2 you can use up to 4 of such huge games simultaneously. But keep in mind that these are not real ROMs, but disk images converted to ROMs, so autodetection of the mapper may not work. In this case you will need to apply one of 3 RCP files called DSK2ROM from our repo:

I am using it with a SD card to CF adapter, makes swapping files a bit easier...

The company's policy is to produce only small quantities in order not to make customers wait too long. I am convinced that there will be a new edition of the cartridge soon.

I asked them the same question. They said:

"Its very likely we will open preorders for the next batch of Carnivore2 next week. Make sure you subscribe to our newsletter or just check our site next week."

Ordered one for my Mitsubishi ML-FX1. Just in time, because all my old floppies are giving up the gost.

I did not get an order confirmation yet
