MSXdev'14 - Uridium announced

Trilobyte member ARTRAG announced a new entry for the MSXdev'14 competition. Together with Toni Galvez (graphics, sound effects) and John Hassink (music) he will create an MSX version of Uridium, a popular science fiction side-scrolling shoot 'em up that has been available for a lot of well known 8 bit machines. Except for the MSX, but that's about to change!

Some of the intended features are smooth horizontal scrolling (50/60 FPS) at any scrolling speed, multicolor graphics and up to 64 sprites on screen. The game will work on Toshiba VDP's with reduced scroll resolution.

Curious? You can find work-in-progress videos here and here and of course you can also follow the Karoshi forums for further updates.

Thanks @Syn, we are using a very old thechnique for the scroll, there is pre-rotated all the char combinations and later we only have to change the chars on the screen. Now it is easier thanks to cross development.

That's quite impressive actually.
I guess you do need lots of memory for all the gfx?

No so much memory, we work unther 48k rom space, but we have space for a splash screen too.

Since I have a functional MSX + Joystick, I want to try it as soon as possible on a CRT telly!
Pretty good to see! Big smile

@tonigalvez
May be it's a very old technique but still that scroll looks like science fiction to me ( @ _ @ ) !!

@theWholeTeam
I won't tell you how cool is the job you're doing: you know already ( ^ _ ^ ) d

Arturo has done many incredible tech demos. Would love to see some of them used in scene demos, with music etc.

Even if you were actually just a good MSX programmer and not one of the best around, I would be anway satisfied with having just a quarter of your skills! And may be it's true this is just an overgrown tech demo, yet is an astounding overgrown tech demo!

Besides, thank you for everything Big smile

I wish it would be fantastic to have a tool like NYYRIKKI one that would import games from C64 directly to our beloved MSX !!!!
Think about all the titles (Platoon, The LAst Ninja, INternational Karate2+, Lightforce..) etc. to our beloved MSX !!!
It would be the time that Federation Against Commodore would reach their final mission :-)
