fMSX for Nokia Series 60 mobile phones 0.90

Topic: Emulation

In this forumthread some cool MSX-ers talked about the possibility of having an MSX emulator for the Series 60 mobile phones, such as the Nokia 3650 and the Nokia 7650. These mobile phones run the Symbian OS.

To our great and pleasant surprise, Juha Riihimäki was triggered and decided to give it a go. In a stunning short time period, he succeeded in porting fMSX to the Series 60 mobile phones and you can download a pre-release of his emulator right here!

In the final version, the emulator will have a lot more features, such as sound, an extensive keyboard config, disk support etcetera. This pre-release however, already shows what we can expect.

We are very happy our MSX forums are more and more becoming this meeting place of MSX minded people. With more than 2000 visitors every day and projects like this emulator, it's definitely worth participating in this new online MSX scene. Let's make it happen!

qoute from the page: "This pre-release package includes MSX1, MSX2 and MSX2+ system ROMs (no disk ROMs) and two game ROM cartridges: "Penguin Adventure" for the MSX1 and "Metal Gear" for the MSX2."

I thought linking to pages containing warez was against MRC policy? And on the frontpage no less... tsk tsk

We have asked the author to remove the roms. This emulator is important news to tell, that's why we report about it. We do not support linking to sites that contain illegal msx software only. His site, however, does not only contain illegal software. It's a grey area, I admit. But we feel we must report about new msx/emulator software. We informed the maker of this emulator about the illegal roms. Taking those roms offline is not our responsibility, but solely that of the author.

Sorry - I was not aware that some of the ROMs are illegal as they are all publicly available from which I don't consider to be a warez site. Nevertheless, I will remove all ROM files from the install packet today and add a separate download for a PC tool to create additional install packets from the systtem ROM files (and game cartridges) yourself if you have managed to acquire them from somewhere (like, hint hint).

Good to hear this jr. Keep in mind that you are allowed to dump the System ROMs from a real MSX as long as you own an MSX yourself.

About the grey area: long time ago we decided to link to/report about 'grey area sites', because otherwise there would be a lot less to report about.
