Thanks! I'm glad you like it.

I'm testing the music and effects now. It is a bit "alpha" but you can see how it is at the moment here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5AfjIhVL5E

A bit more progress, I have three stages ready!

https://twitter.com/reidrac/status/1173230839821406208

I'm aiming at 5, but because I moved to a 48K cart (32 was not enough), I may have space for more. It all depends.

Quick update: stage 4 is ready, one stage left in my original "plan". So far play-testing has been very positive: the game is challenging, but difficulty goes up nicely so you can progress with practice. Also I've decided to allow "continues".

I hope I'll start beta testing in a couple of weeks; tentative release date by the end of November.

I enjoy it a lot when developers keep us updated on twitter. The previews, struggles and eureka moments are truly entertaining. So please, keep doing that Smile

Looking forward to this one. Smile

Thanks for your support!

I'll continue with the updates on Twitter, although as I get to the end of the game, there will be less things to talk about (other than the struggles, that is! LOL!).

The release date is: Nov 29th 2019.

This will give more time to the testers. Also the game will have a physical release with Repro Factory, with pre-orders starting early December.

Hey, cool, congrats!

Played for a bit, some thoughts:

  • esc to exit the demo is a bit odd (on MSX anyway), space is the common key for this;
  • the bullets on the orange honeycomb backgrounds (stage 2) can be hard to spot (depends a bit on your monitor/gamma settings etc);
  • perhaps you can alternate the green text with another color, like orange?
  • perhaps display power-up level at top bar;
  • also enable the N-key (easier to reach on some keyboards) (Konami-style Wink)
  • have you considered using a smaller hitbox? (though it's o/c certainly no bullet hell Wink)
  • consider a boss time-bonus (e.g. the stage 2 boss: you can be lazy, or aggressive, which could be rewarded Smile)

The random speedy bullets makes sure you have to stay alert Wink

Thanks/cheers!

Not sure if you care/appreciate, I played some more, some final remarks/feedback:

(Is the 1.0 rom you released also the gold master for the cart?)

  • also allow power-up pick ups when you're maxed powered up, just reward with a nice amount of points Smile
  • yellow warning signs seem more 'cool' to me (more closely represent actual warning signs);
  • bosses could be more dangerous if they feature these random fast bullets as well? Smile
  • use an alternate / more severe destruction sound if your own ship gets destroyed;
  • bullet on pink backgrounds stage 4 can be difficult to discern as well.

Of course, pretty nice playing & well polished game anyway/already. The chain system is cool (damn it, 8 again Wink) can't recall an MSX game that features it? Now to play it w/o openMSX reverse.. Wink Congraburation!

Welcome & thanks, I do realize it's perhaps a bit like mustard after dinner (Wink) (when you've gone gold already Smile)

I also only learned about Night Knight last week, very cool as well, digging the skeleton sprite Wink

That one also reminded my a bit of Alter Ego, the originally for ZX game you probably know. There's an excellent MSX port (which was an MSXdev'11 entry) as well by TNI, which is based on the NES port by Shiru. Check it out, plays really well :)

Keep it up!

Thanks! Yes, I agree it is a bit late to make changes, specially when the game has been "validated" by the testers. I don't want to break stuff at this point.

Your feedback is appreciated anyway.
