The popular demogroup Bandwagon surprised both MSX-lovers and people who never even saw an MSX with their stunning MSX1 demo's. Many people have wondered how these demo's were created. Although there are no real hints on techniques or source codes it might be interesting to read the newspost on their website. It goes to show Bandwagon were real cross-development pioneers.

Antii Silvast from Bandwagon already disclosed some of their programming tricks years ago in MCCW 91 & 92:

Pretty interesting stuff :-)

Too bad this was something from June.. Quite an old "news"-post :-(

Well, we do our best to track all interesting sites, but we welcome any help from our users to point us to interesting sites/news. And, what´s your definition of news? We report about things we think you don´t know yet. That has nothing to do with the date someone put info on his site. We try to report as soon as possible, but we are humans too. Everything we do for this site is done in our free time. If you want to know about things sooner, submit news. The more people do this, the sooner everybody knows about it.

Nothing wrong with that, sander. But bringing it as if it's 'new news' is kinda confusing. I didn't see anything new at Bandwagon's page so I thought maybe the changes weren't uploaded yet (like with yesterdays microcabin driver post).. The words '4 months ago' somewhere in the newspost would clear up confusion about old news.

As far as I know, they are MSX1 demos that need a V9938 VDP. So they are more MSX2 demos with MSX1 screen modes. They only work fine on SVI-738 computers and MSX2/MSX2+/Turbo-R computers.

Nope, at least some of the demos, if not all, use SCREEN mode 2,
which is 100% 9918/28 :-)

It's possible these demo's work only on V9938 if they output to VRAM too fast. V9938 has a buffered VRAM I/O and can recieve far more bytes per second than the unbuffered TMS9918 can.

I guess they can also use the extra vram.

I have ran Bandwagon's demos on my Spectravideo 728 which is a very basic MSX1 computer. I can't quite remember now if they ran 100% correctly, but there definitely weren't any major problems.
