From the author of the book Modern MSX Basic game development comes a new MSXdev22 entry called SpaceCat. The game combines gameplay aspects of lander and platform games. A good illustration of a modern MSX Basic game.

In SpaceCat, you are a new student at the SpaceCat academy. Make it through the training deck, and you will be rewarded with an official certificate. With that, you can go into space as a SpaceCat pilot hunting mice. Space mice, that is.

This game is super fun!! And quite impressive if this is made in BASIC, it moves super smoothly!

Congrats! Nice game.

Perhaps I am doing something wrong, but after picking up all the mice, my spaceship crashes everytime when I am trying to land on the yellow platform...

@ray2day Did you land softly enough? I don't know if the horizontal speed matters as well, but I crashed when I didn't bother slowing down (vertically) to land; when I landed with low velocity, I cleared the stage.

Thanks for playing it!
Yes, you need to land softly. Horizontal speed matters too.

Well, I just like inertia-based gameplay, so of course I play it Smile
