From Patrik's Retro Tech comes another challenge, best served ice cold. Here is Penguin Run, which will yield you to play the role of, you guessed it, a penguin, who's to makes its way across the icy plains of Antarctica.

Well, sure, most of us have helped a penguin to jump over holes in the ice at least once in our lives, but can you say you also did that in side-scrolling view? We didn't think so either!

If you would like to find out more about the chilling backstory of how this particular penguin got himself in so much trouble, we'd like to, as always, refer you to the official MSXdev site. It's right here, in the "Relevant link" section, as is ofcourse the link to play online, courtesy of The File Hunter.

Enjoying MSXdev? In that case, please consider donating to the contest.

Last year when I started to learn how to make games for MSX I had no plans to release anything public. I managed to create a working wordle clone that I called Wörd! I really wanted to have some music in the game. The tbe problem is that I have no talet what so ever. Luckily a guy reached out on Instagram and offered to help me. He had done some awesome stuff for C64 and Amiga but never even used an MSX. Together we figured out how to do it. At this point I read about msxdev and after a few sleepless nights I decided to submit the game.

People seemd to not hate my game too much and I started to play around with how to do physics and smooth scrolling. This resulted in a game with a jumping penguin. My new friend also wanted to create music for this game. He made some nice and catchy tunes that fitted well with the game. Penguin Run was born and later also submitted to msxdev.

I started to dream of creating a cartridge of the game but it seemed complicated and it was hard to find the material. I found out that MSX Repro Factory could do this. But I needed some art for the box and the cartridge. I struggled a lot with drawing something and finaly managed to make something that I was quite happy with.

This journey has been about one year and now now a physical release is available! I also want to thank the awsome MSX community and I hope someone read this and get inspired to make their own games!
