The Commodore PET computer was home of the PET ASCII Font based game Attack of the Petscii Robots, recently developed by the-8bit-guy. Ported to many systems, we finally have the MSX version. Robosoft took the game and pimped it for the V9990 with OPL4.

This is great!! Really looking good! I own a copy of the C128 version wich has a dual screen mode, game on 1 screen and the map on the second. Would something like this be doable on a msx, v9990 on 1 screen and plain MSX on the other? Question

I'm currently working on an update which adds the live map on the same display (V9990). The plain MSX screen now shows a static image. To display the map on that screen is challenging due to the color limits, but let's see what is possible Wink

BTW: The game was made possible by the great MSXgl library of Aoineko and the Re-play library of Grauw for the music.

It is great to have this ported but I am not sure this should be in the contest.

How do you get smooth scroll?

I mean fast scroll, the screen updates quick and feels smooth, although you're right, it's tile based scroll. I mean that it feels good

Please note that WebMSX (the online emulator) does not support OPL4 FM sound, so you will miss the music. Run it in either OpenMSX or on real HW to get the full experience Smile .

Here also a short video which includes the music as well.

Does David Murray (the 8 bit guy) knows about this version, can't find anything on his site...

Haha, so you see a nice monochrome game, and first thing that comes to mind is to port it to the most advanced graphic chip MSX has to offer? That's bold, I'd say. But what the heck, why not?

Your port nicely shows that you don't have to use all the fancy stuff of v9990. What you've done basically is a screen 5 equivalent in tile mode. Which means you speed up good old screen 5 and you get a nice looking game. I hope more developers follow in your footsteps. The more v9990 games the better!

This AMIGA port has been updated to v1.1, with the following features:

- Press 'TAB' in the game to see a live minimap. This shows live positions of the player (red flashing) and robots (white flashing). While the map is active you can perform basically all actions (walk around, move and picku p things, shoot, etc..)
- Press 'SELECT' to toggle the music in game on and off
