Okay, not running SD-BIOS is fine. Your SX2 will be an MSX2+ in that case. With SD-BIOS you could end up with an MSX2 BIOS but that is not the case here.

Your SX-2 will already have support for SD-BIOS. With it you can add Nextor ROM which could be nice.

You can indeed plug in the V9990 cartridge in a slot and when the slot is enabled as external the software that uses V9990 will use it.

SofaRun is using disk emulation through SofaRunIt. It’s very good but not perfect. SX-2 (and other OCM) also support disk emulation through the FPGA using EP.COM. You can read about it on TNI’s page one the original OCM. Not all info is correct for later KdL firmwares but the information on EP.COM is still valid. Try the games with this tool and see if you get them to run.

You don't need to enable the slot as external to use a 9990 since that interface uses only I/O and for I/O only devices the external slot works just fine even if it is allocated to a SCC mapper or something else. One issue though is that recent MGLOCM versions do not work well with v9990 software (i.e. loading Kai Magazine Life on Earth) unless you use the MGLOCM that is bundled with 3.6.1 release of OCM software.

Q1 of 2: I added EP.COM to my SD card and tried to boot a game. I'm not sure how this works with EP in the main A: directory and the game in A:\MSXP_GS. But I entered the below, following the instructions in your link and get "Not a DOS disk reading drive A:\ {carriage return} Abort or Retry [A/R]?"

A:\EP TWINKLES.DSK D: [\B] [\R]

Q2 of 2: I went to the Nestor pages on Github and there are about 15 different ROMS. Do I just download and copy all of the except source code to my SD card, or are only certain roms necessary for roms, disks and cassettes?

Answer 1: (Wink) check my posts on the PATH environment variable in this thread. Best is to have EP.COM in A:\UTILS and that directory to the PATH. You can add DOS2 tools and other OCM tools in the same directory.

Answer 2: then change to the directory where your game is and just run EP with /R option:

CD MSXP_GS
EP TWINKLES.DSK /R

Answer 3: you need the OCM version of NEXTOR.ROM, also you need to create the complete SD-BIOS from within the KdL package. Not behind my PC now so I can’t give complete instructions. I will check later. You will create a OCM_BIOS.DAT file (I think that is the name) that contains MSX2+ BIOS, with keyboard layout of your preference, boot logo of your preference, Mega-SD or Nextor kernel, etc. It has to be the very first file on the SD (instructions are in the KdL package). If the file is found during boot these ROMs are used instead of the ones flashed in the OCM.
