The soundtrack of this Konami Famicom game sounds really good to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drwX7MbB_IE
It uses the VRC7 which seems quite a bit ahead the SCC but the sound design/composing is very familiar to me when comparing it to SCC songs. Were the same composers at work here or am I just imagining things?

VRC7 is a an YM2413 OPLL but with different instrument presets and only 6 channels FM accessible.
About the compositions, I bet you're right. The composers are listed here.
