Hit, would it be hard to port this soccer game to the MSX2?

Are those 16x16 sprites (video is a wee bit blurry)?

In the ideal case there'd have to be an algo to have max 3 of these players on a row (keeping a spot for the ball at all times). That's gonna be hard for a game where in theory a ucp/npc goes to a place because of tactical reasons, not because of sprite flicker avoiding reasons. What does the player control anyway? The one who has the ball, or the whole team at once?

I would say, with a clever algo, it should be quite doable on MSX2, screen 5 even.

the only 16x16 pixel wide sprite is the ball, when throwed up.
anyway there are 11 sprites on screen, so teoretically even sms will flicker.
msx2 does this more however, because one need to use 2 sprites (but we get the ability to improve gfx a bit. using 16 pixels wide sprites)

Does anyone know the AI used, in those games, to move the others players by cpu?

IMO wouldn't be a difficult port once you've disassembled it and understand the AI code.
I'd probably use bitmaps for the players and sprites for the white field lines (or mixed)

Why would you port it? It doesn't seem to be better than Konami's Soccer/Football, just vertical instead of horizontal.

Most people are 8x12 pixel sprites.
11 blitter sprites a 8x12 pixels: 100 fps.
Figure for screen 5 with hardware sprites turned off.
A homerun on MSX2.

Testing this requires drawing 11 blitter sprites and roll the screen a bit.

In screen 8, the playfield can be 1.33 screens high without scroll border fill.
The whole thing can go as 30fps screen 8 game.
Or with same figures on a double resolution screen 7 with sprites in high detail.

@manuel: I'd like to see a Great Soccer like game on MSX2 for several reasons:
- Konami''s Soccer and some other apart, all the others soccer games are very poor Spectrum conversions...;
- MSX2 doesn't have a real good soccer game;
- Sega's Champion Soccer apart, there are not vertical soccer games for the MSX;
- it could be a good suggestion for a entry of the new MSXdev.

@hit9918: first, thankyou and compliments for making the MSX1 smoothscroller! Second, I have seen Great Soccer and though that it could be simple to do on a MSX2. So, do you confirm it's possible? (I don't understand: is it feasible in screen 5?).

Fully agree with enribar, a MSX2 version would be nice. Although I'm not a football enthusiast I also would like to see an enhanced version and remember old times as we did with the Konami's Soccer. Perhaps a screen 4 version with scroll?
I was doing some tests time ago making graphics (players, ground...), if someone is interested to start something, just let me know.

in this game, sc4 does not offer any advantage compared to screen 5.
Vertical Scroll is hw based, screen 5 with sw sprites is perfecly doable, and gfx quality could be far better than SMS version.

Would Microprose Soccer be possible on MSX?

Would love to see something like that for MSX2. I played SWOS for years on my A500, career mode. I would like to play a clone, with actual team data, on two o three 2DD disks.

And about the scroll, any soccer game would require more than vertical scroll, which could be tricky on MSX.
