After the release of the beta named pointless fighting at the #msxdev Compo 2014 there´s still plans to continue the development? Somebody take the torch?
Welcome to the forum Freestate.
I am expecting that SF2 will never see a finished version. There are many complications involved on many more heights than just getting the source code and writing the game to a end.
Are you planning to do it?
Are you one of the developers of SF2 Daemos? And what are the complications ?

I am not one of the developers and for now I am certainly not planning to do it.
I see. Well, anyone knows who the developers are?
I feel sad that this game is a huge achievement and it seems that it won't be properly finished. Besides fearing for copyright issues, I don't see what additional complication there may be. It seems to me that the hardest part (the game) is already done. All it is missing is the additional players and their ending sequence.

At least we know that some (ex- and current) TNI members were involved in this project ...

And the correct intro screen, not this insult to the MSX community !
As a fighting game fan, I can say it is a lot of work to make a good fighting game. Graphics engine is just a small part of the work required for such a game. Amongst others, have fun fixing hitboxes, hurtboxes and pushboxes for hundreds of animation frames You have to make sure every move is correct (has the correct timing, appropriate damage etc).
(not saying all this is needed for Pointless Fighting, just my observation as a fan of the genre).
As a beginner MSX developer, I have really thought about it but decided not to make a fighting game for msx for now (partly because the genre is not that popular anyway)
All it is missing is the additional players and their ending sequence.
Thats a loooooot of work and there are some other difficulties.
EDIT: and considering the amount of work required to get this game finished I find that pointless fighting is a huge achievement and we should be happy it got this far. The capabilities of MSX have been shown.
I'm aware of the amount of work involved with adding what is missing. Maybe I didn't make myself clear. What I meant was that the technical challenge of making this game work in MSX (some thought it couldn't be done in a MSX2) is already solved. The remaining work maybe be huge, but it is something that we know that can be done.
It's sad that this game ends as a proof of concept only. I was hoping that we could someday buy a properly finished MSX cartridge with a nice case and manual. I know I would buy such cartridge even if the final game was released as a rom for free.

I'd say thats not the only thing that needs work. Proper combo'ing (moves canceling) is not in it, hitboxes arent 100% right for example.

An artists interpretation of the classic arcade opening is an insult to the entire MSX scene?
