sure i think is not the good ROM
@Bas040 can you make a new copie of the eprom please
hmmm, that could explain why the proto board still does not work, even with the minor changes. It was already strange that the image only contained 4k of program data, and this for a test cartridge ??
So, indeed it would be interesting to have a new dump of its contents.
I can confirm STCMSX1P.zip contains the wrong ROM image! I looked at some RS232 ROM images and found the exact identical ROM image but with another name !
I found it 100% identical with the RS232 Kuma cartridge Image and can be found on the same site:
https://hansotten.file-hunter.com/uploads/files/STCMSX1P.zip
(https://hansotten.file-hunter.com/special-msx-hardware/phili...)
https://hansotten.file-hunter.com/uploads/files/RS2PROTO.zip
(https://hansotten.file-hunter.com/technical-info/rom-dumps/)
I compared the images with some Linux commands and could not find any difference, not even a BIT.
Linux commands used:
xxd STCMSX1P.ROM
xxd RS2PROTO.ROM
diff STCMSX1P.ROM RS2PROTO.ROM
So it would be great if Bas040 could dump its contents. Or anyone else who still own this MSX1 Test Cartridge.
I will give it a try soon.
With the Philips Service Cartridge inserted Basic is started. Getrom.bin does nos detect the cartridge. I cleaned the connectors of the cartridge. Cartridge is not working anymore/broken or can I try something else?
I dumped the rom of the Philips Floppy Disk Drive Test. It's not the same rom as the one on the (previous) site of Hans Otten. The program is started with _fddtest
My Philips Service Cartridge (for Philips MSX2 computers) starts without problems. But also when using a slot expander with the slot disabled using a dip switch. Using this dip switch to disable/enable works just fine for other cartridges (e.g. Konami games).
Any ideas?
BAS, did you put your MSX1 into service mode ? To be able to use the Service Cartridge for MSX1, you need to put the MSX1 into service mode first, meaning disabling the internal ROM. I'm doing tests with my VG-8010. The 'repair method' manual for the VG-8010 says to disable the internal ROM by connecting +5V to pin 20 (IC663) , then to insert this service cartridge and apply power to the MSX.
In which MSX model are you testing this cartridge ?

Maybe you have another revision for your internal test ROM ? Like the photo you uploaded for the MSX1 STC might suggest, it is marked rev 2.02. Maybe it is similar for the FDD Test Cartridge, other revisions?
I tried to dump the cartridge using a VG8000 and a (moadified) NMS8250.
Today I tried what is happening using a VG8020. Now the computer does not start-up at all. So something is happening.

is the MSX start if you remove the cartridge ?
Yes, without the cartridge the MSX starts without problems.
