still alive...
just became father again..so had little time for anything else.

status of the project(s):

at the moment I have two (almost finished) versions of Raziëls Revenge. a msx 1 version and a msx 2 version.

the msx 1 version lacks some music at the final levels and has a few minor enemy AI *bugs*
the msx 2 version still has some *bugs* mostly lagging(VDP copies) so here probably I need to do some redesigning of some core parts Crazy Crying

and the newest project I'm working on is a hardware project which at the moment takes up all my spare time.

it's a all-in-one-cartridge(dont have a name yet?) which has 4 processors running at 32mhz each (fetch and execute 1cycle) which handle things like USB,math ,mem blitter, sound(multichannel 16bit wave and also scc emulation) and video display unit(memory mapped access,framebuffering,4096 colors 4planes 128sprites,hw flipxy,no limit to sprites on a row)

It's all in a very premature state. scattered over 4 prototype boards.
I just wanted to see if I could do it. The actual goal is to run arcade(MAME) games on the MSX with minimalistic conversion effort

soo you see I'm pretty MSX-busy...still a one man team... still just a hobby so I have to make a choice in what I want to do most with the little spare time I have.Wink

Err.. so, you're creating a small PC/Amiga-in-a-cartridge which uses the MSX as power supply unit?

msx z80 still controls the hardware...and runs the main code

you just don't need separate cartridges for handling sound/gfx/usb

it can all be on one !

but the amiga was in the back of my mind when designing this hardware.

Good to hear you're still active!

Still it's tricky business. Most of the game logic of about any game (including modern ones) can be done by a Z80 at 3.57Mhz (probably the only exception are games with extensive pathfinding (like Warcraft) and other complex AI, and perhaps games that really require lots and lots of RAM). It's the visuals and the sound that take away the MSX's resources. You could say that by unloading the audio/video from the Z80 you have the whole Z80 for the game logic. I wonder what others would say about this.. the current poll (which I'll try to finish soon Tongue) would suggest that people don't mind extra chips in a game cartridge, but an often heard condition is that the MSX/Z80 still has to do most of the work, and for instance that A/V signals should pass through the MSX and more like such comments.

Since you're seemingly Mr.Hardware here, you probably would say that an MSX with your cartridge (let's call it an Amiga cartridge for sake of discussion) is still an MSX. Now a counter question: if you strip the Motorola from an Amiga and replace it with a Z80 (the remaining A/V chips are identical to your cartridge) would you call the machine an MSX then?

audio can run thru the msx but unamplified.
video is just not possible thru the cart interface.

NO !

It's still a MSX when just sticking additional hardware INTO the MSX expansion port. Because this is what this port is meant for: expanding the MSX. And that's exactly what I'm doing. Expanding MSX's possibilities.

without the MSX my hardware is useless !

Yes, and that expandability concept of the MSX leads to discussions recently, regarding identity. People would argue that the more you expand an MSX the more it becomes a PC with a PSU from 1985. Anyway, it's a discussion that will probably never go away. Hannibal

Welcome back RyJuZo! Greetings for the newcomer !
Nice to know you are on a new HW project despite of napkins and bottles.
Actually I was really eager to see your games and tools. I hope you will find the time to release them !

RyJuZo is triggering my BS meter, anyone else who feels the same?

- Unreleased software (really.... it's coming... some day)
- Vague screenshots (yeah, these are mine... but I won't release it nor do you get to see in game screenshots)
- Stories about new hardware (side tracking conversation topic)
- Blaming others for his delays (delay tactics)

@vampier: Totally agree with you... it trigged my BS meter with the very first post! I immediately used words like hoax! But a lot of msx.org visitors got angry on me and others who had the same hoax ideas!

Is it a revenge hoax from GuyveR800??? Tongue

Using 4 processors on a new hardware project??? Using sentences like: 4096 colors 4planes 128sprites,hw flipxy,no limit to sprites on a row
We are talking MSX here for cryin' out loud!!

I think someone is laughing very hard..

Are Vampier and I the only ones who share this opinion????????????????????

Evidence mister RyJuZo!! You are wasting credits!!
