I really need help in troubleshooting with Wozblaster

I assembled a Wozblaster few months ago and I have not had the luck to make the OPL4 runs. It will run OPL, OPL2 and OPL3 smoothly but not the OPL4. All I hear from OPL4 files is noise with some false tune.

I used the application moontest to see what I get, I got the following:

YMF287B-F
Rom 2048KB
NO RAMs installed !!!!!! (Although I installed many RAMs)

I programmed the 27C160 on 4 parts with the TL866 programmer and the adapter for 27C160. I followed the picture below in setting the dip switch on the adapter as instructed by the designer of this programmer. A18 / A19 = 0 / 0 when the switch is on 1 1 , doesn't make sense to me but this is the instructions. I also tried the other way around by programming another 27C160 when setting the switch A18 / A19 = 0 / 0 when the switch is on 0 0, still the Wozblaster won't run OPL4 files correctly.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Are you using it on a TurboR? I noticed TurboR computers don't run the moontest correctly when using turbo mode, you need to run the tool on Z80 mode. I can send you a 27C160 programmed if you want.

Can you also use SETOPL tool to play a few MIDI waves ? If they play ok, then your 27C160 is ok and the problem is not there.

Thanx Cristiano. I wrote for you on email. Let me know what you think.

I will use SETOPL and see how it goes with me
