@Wolf:

And then when it comes the time of using Petabytes (or Pebibytes), the HD manufacturers will be ruined because they will have to spend more money in the ink used to write the bytes number in the HD label that in the HD technolony itself Tongue

Now to the trick question. Is one millibyte 1/1000 or 1/1024 of one byte?

Millibyte should be 1/1000.
Mibibyte should be 1/1024.

I think...

What about microbyte, femptobyte, picabyte? LOL.

I propose oodlebyte. Which equals oodles o' bytes.

I would guess that one decibyte == one bit. the closest power of 2 of 1/10 (deci) is 1/8 which is the same as one bit. Maybe debibyte is the more correct word for it (1/8 byte)

So from now on I'll stop using the name bit and use debibyte instead. So instead of saying e.g. bit 7 I'll say debibyte 7. Sounds good, rite?

And how will you call nibble, word and double word?

Aren't you pushing this nomenclature a little?

maybe a tiny little bit Wink but someone started it... I was perfectly happy with kilobyte but once I heard about this revolutionary idea I got hooked and now I just want more LOL!

More like 1 decibit (or debibit) is 1 byte... what the fuck.

Let's just forget the whole metric system when talking bits 'n bytes. Let us decide on something completely NEW instead. just for arguments sake..

A gallion of bytes...
1 foot of bits equals a dozen bytes.. or something

Yes, and can you use a nice wrapping paper? It's a gift Smile
