Hello all

I'm looking for a PC Keyboard Interface like Padials (RIP) LPE-PCKF-V6KPR or other. Does anyone have one for sale?

Thanks and best regards
C.

There is a MA20 that has a PS2 keyboard interface on it, but that is only one, and probably too much anyway.

The Padial one would not work with USB type keyboards, good luck in finding one

What is a MA20, djh1697? The MSX2 upgrade cartridge?
The Padial keyboard interface still works with some (older/cheaper) USB keyboards. At least you can use a active PS2/USB connector.
It will be easier (and cheaper) to find a used keyboard for your 8250 anyway.

AFAIK his son still sells some hardware, probably some remaining stock. Try to contact him.

MSX-USB also has a USB HID keyboard driver. Depending on the situation it (with maybe a RookieDrive NX) can work for you? However be aware that for these cartridge-based keyboard replacements compatibility won't be great (OK for MSX-DOS and BASIC but games or apps that use direct PPI access don't seem to work) and also each one is a bit particular about which keyboard model you connect due to how the codes have been mapped. Also which localization of MSX you use can make a difference due to layout differences.

The USB MSX interfaces tend just be for storage, there is nothing to stop someone developing a driver for a USB keyboard in the USB interface, it would be a case of reading the keyboard via the USB interface, and then mapping all the keystrokes into the PPI somehow? There are likely to be hooks in the BIOS that you would use, but it is a very long time since I did any programming at machine code/assembly level.

FDD1h H.KYEA Call: At the beginning of internal routine KYEASY that decodes the keyboard.
Usage: Change the way a key is interpreted.

Shame we do not have the diagram or method padial used? Maybe someone would be up to the task of reverse engineering it?

The MSX-USB HID driver is already somewhat usable with RookieDrive NX. You can find its sources here: https://github.com/S0urceror/MSX-USB/tree/master/drivers/Usb...

According to its documentation it hooks H.CHGE

If you have no working main keyboard you can start it using AUTOEXEC.BAT / REBOOT.BAT. Probably you will also want a flash cartridge for the MSX-USB ROM

Dear all

Thank you very much to all for your replies. First I try to contact Padials son and hope he has some in stock. If not, no worry, I can wait until someone made a reverse engineering Smile Unfortunately I'm not able to do it.

Stay healthy and best regards
C.

Dear all

I'm glad to give you a short update to this topic.

I contacted Padials son and he sent me a PC Keyboard Interface (LPE-PCKF-V6KPR). It works perfect and I'm happy about it.

Stay healthy and best regards
C.

Hi Caspar, glad to hear you managed to get one of these. I was wondering, do you have a contact email for Padial's son that's different to the one on his webpage? I sent an email a few weeks ago to lpadial@telefonica.net (from the webpage) asking if I could order this interface, but didn't get a reply. That was before I read the sad news about Padial.
