I have a MegaFlashRom SCC+ and a MSX2+ and I tried running some roms that were marked as SCC+ compatible, but there was no music.

I wanted to do the comparison between Antartic Adventure with and without the SCC+ in the tag and only got music from the regular one. Am I missing some tags that I must use to load the rom like for Metal Gear 2 or something like that?

Thank you!

Those ROMs may only work with sound when loaded into a Snatcher or SD-Snatcher cart’s RAM. For flash cards it is best to use the ROMs patched for regular SCC.

Some of those SCC+ ROMs are ripped/adapted in a wrong way.
Louthrax did a great tool for extracting the ROMs from Konami Game Collection disks.
That SCC+ ROMs will work fine on the MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD

Just note that no SCC+ ROM games exist, all games with SCC+ were released on disk. So, any ROM versions of those games are cracks made to run on emulators and/or flash cartridges. But as is often the case with cracks, they can be buggy and only work on specific configurations, so this is why you are having issues. Find a better crack (like Guillian pointed to), or run the original disk versions.

I think original disk versions use RAM from the Sound cartridge so They sould not work on the MFR SCC+. In addition there are a lot of modified versions of DSK so I am not simpler than to use extracted Roms.

Many of extracted Roms from disk are badly converted. (They are unstable or work only on emulator.)
I have a list of over 90 versions classified as bad dump.

So, if I understand correctly, using the Konami Game Collection disks should work fine with the MegaFlashRom SCC+.
Do I need to have a Snatcher or SD snatcher rom loaded for this to work?

Also is there a difference between the two? Does one offer a different instrument set or something like that?

@Hiveul, the original Snatcher and SD Snatcher were disk games, but they used a special cartridge with the SCC+ chip and 128kB RAM inside that cartridge. These cartridges were wired differently so you couldn't use Snatcher's cartridge with SD Snatcher and vice versa, without modifications.

The MFRSCC+SD by itself doesn't work like the Konami SCC+ cartridges, so you can't use the original Snatcher, SD Snatcher and Konami Game Collection with it, but as @Guillian pointed out, you can use Louthrax's tool to extract ROM files from the Konami Game Collection that will work on the MFRSCC+SD.

Alternatively, there are cracked versions of these disks that may work with the MFRSCC+SD in some particular configurations (for example, if you have at least 128kB of Memory Mapper), but your safer bet is going with @Guillian's advice.

For me if I use SCC+ mode with Louthrax’s tool the games have no sound on openMSX whilst the ROMs created with SCC mode work fine. I can’t recall if I tested the SCC+ ROMs on MFR or other flash carts...

I managed to find functional ROMs from the Konami Game Collection that do work with the SCC+.

I've also grabbed Project Melancholia as I was told it works as well. I got the game to boot and got the screen that properly detected my SCC-I in the form of the MegaFlashRom SCC+ SD. However, when starting the game I get no sound. I tried a couple combination holding S and R on boot and I got nothing. Holding R on boot as suggested in the translation patch's readme actually makes my machine boot in Basic with seemingly no access to any drives.

Anyone got a tip for me? Thank you!

Also, if I understand well, there is currently no translated version of The Snatcher that will run with music on the MegaFlashRom SCC+ alone, right?

That's good to know!

When I tried, it worked on my MFRSCC+SD without any issues. I wonder what could have gone wrong with your setup.
