Years ago, so long that I really can't remember how long anymore, Konamiman asked John Hassink and me to create OPL4 conversions of the Vampire Killer OST in order to inject them into the game. We set off quite rapidly, but soon the project halted. If I remember correctly Konamiman withdrew and gave John and me green light to continue... We didn't...

Now, while sorting my rom files, I accidentally ran into this beta rom and got tickled to try and complete the project. Of course I can not code one bit, but making covers is one of the things I'm not bad at when I put my mind to it. It's fat from impossible to make ok music. I just need a coder to pick up where Konamiman left. If he still has his source codes, I'm pretty sure he won't keep them for himself as he encouraged John and me to continue.

Any serious coder who wants to put the dot on the i here?

Here's a clip of the beta with some placeholder OPL4 music.

That sounds pretty nice! ) I'm afraid I am unable to help you out, but I can imagine the result would be great!

Good project!
I love the MIDI versione of the X68000 game.
Would be possibile to reproduce a similar sound with the OPL4?

Really cool project, if I had some spare time I'd be delighted to give my contribution...

I don't like Vampire Killer enough to get motivated to this, but I am working on a tool that may help. Stay tuned Smile

Nice!!! I don't like the new game start little tune (the original was really cool! Smile), but the in-game music is VERY good!!! I hope you guys pick this up again! Big smile

Oh wow. Weird people does weird things... :-P

I still have the sources around, I think I might just publish them in GitHub. No coding skills required btw (unless some bug is found of course); the work required is little more than composing the musics, putting them in a folder together with the original ROM, and running the assembler (and there's a README explaining all of this) - all the required code is already there.

Nice to have improvement if someone has the guts determination and time for it: convert the sound effects to OPL4 as well (they are still PSG in the current patch).

Also that was in 2010, but IIRC, the project halted because nobody got to actually compose the musics? (not trying to blame anyone but just to remember what happened) Smile

I think you're right, konamiman. I remember that I did complete the arrangement of the boss music, but not much more.
Well, seeing as the music itself is the bottleneck, maybe it's a fun idea to invite more OPL4 composers to contribute to this project and make it a scene effort? It should probably be noted that everyone has to agree on a single wavekit to be used.
