Dear All,

RAMBO III is one of the best action/strategic games in 80s. The game was released in different platforms but with the same game scenario. I am shocked when I compare MSX version with Amiga version... There is no comparison at all. The Amiga version is better big time ... Why?

I know for fact that MSX turbo R GT is better than Amiga, Commodore, Spectrum and Amstrad from all aspects. TR GT has sound quality and many other things.

Please see the videos below.

MSX:

Amiga:

Is it right that MSX turbo R GT better than all other computers, nor I am wrong? Also, can I play Amiga version in MSX turbo R GT?

Regards,

Ibrahim

This version seems to be a version of ZX spectum converted to MSX. (Not a real MSX version)

Do you know Super Rambo Special for MSX2 ?

Thanks for your reply....

I know Super Rambo Special .... RAMBO III is a cartridge game for MSX ... It is available in eBay but I didn't buy it because the seller is not sure if it is still working and I don't have cassette recorder.

eBay Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/RAMBO-III-STALLONE-CINTA-MSX-12-/300...

My question..... Why MSX version is ugly?

As said already above, the MSX version is directly converted from the ZX Spectrum (what happened a lot during those days with european games). As a result the MSX version looks more or less the same as the ZX Spectrum (and doesn't use full capabilites of the MSX).

Next to that, the Amiga is (a lot) more powerful than the MSX (and MSX 2 / 2+), especially for the graphics part (which unfortunately even on the Turbo R is still the same as MSX2+).

In the past, many Spectrum games converted were sold on cassette tape.
Several SG-1000 games converted have been sold on cartridge. (like Ponyca)
A version of Zaxxon sold by Philips is a Colecovision game converted.
Most are just patched binaries to work on MSX.

Technically I think it is not very difficult to do a similar remake of Rambo 3 on MSX2.

Technically... I am that expert ... But I believe MSX turbo R A1-GT is the best computer ever.

It is totally unfair to see a great game like "Space Manbow" with a great graphics and sound and we can't play game like Amiga-RAMBO III in MSX.

I hate also emulation... I can play all MSX games for free in BlueMSX emulator ... But with no feelings .. Intried before and it was a fake experience not only for me but for everybody "I think".

Do not overestimate the turbo-R it is a great computer but it is not the ultimate computer for its time. While its CPU has unmatching performance with alot of computing power the V9958 lacks all of the specs that the early 90's allready had. No multilayer HW scrolls, zoom. Slow clocked performance. The V9958 is even so much of a bottleneck that it makes the turbo CPU useless as soon as the software heavily depends on GFX.

Every MSX developer that makes games has the same fight. The V99x8. Its a great VDP and the gfx looks lovely but it holds back the turbo-R big time in performance.

The speed of the R800 CPU in the turboR is crazy.

That said, the V9958 may be holding back the turboR, but then again few games even used the V9958 to its full capacity so would a better VDP have truly made a difference? Hardware scroll is a killer feature in terms of game performance, yet seldom used. Screen 10-12 graphics are also amazing for game graphics (look up M-Kid or ericb’s recent game post), but even less used than the scrolling.

Also, if you compare the graphics of the MSX to the graphics of other 8-bit systems, say what you will about the V99x8 but it’s far superior to most, it offers graphics that you would otherwise only see in 16-bit systems. So, I’m pretty happy with it Smile.

Btw, in the case of Rambo III, I see nothing in the Amiga version that an MSX2 couldn’t do with ease.

You are absolutely right. The MSX2+ and Turbo-r are the best in image quality.
Superior for making slide show or digitalized pictures... unfortunetly... not the best for gaming...
