I don't know if this is the right thread to ask but can some kind soul start Addcom an ADMSA180 MSX Cartridge Cleaner wiki? It is an one-of-a-kind "rom" that doesn't do anything electronically but cleans the MSX slot and MSX rom pins. Its contents are a cartridge with a plastic dummy PCB in it, a detergent pot (its contents have been dried up/used up so I cannot tell) and a plastic anvil-shaped device with a dent at both side. Though no elaborate description is available I can guess two usages; apply detergent to a dent then 1) slide the dent over the dummy pin, then insert the cartridge into the MSX to clean the slot or 2) slide the dent over a real MSX cartridge pins to clean them. I cannot predict what happens by powering the MSX with this cartridge neither I am eager to try. All the images are here.

Google translation of text at box back:

"Features
Adcom MSX Cartridge Cleaner for MSX - Special cleaner for cartridges and connectors.
Important: cartridges and connectors are exposed to dust and acid.
If the ROM is used while it is dirty with chemicals, etc, it may damage the cartridge or the main unit.
Therefore regular use of MSX Cartridge Cleaner.
Regular cleaning of cartridges and connectors always keeps the machine in the best condition
and prevents the occurrence of errors from happening.
A special material is used, so the cartridge and connector will remain intact even after long-term use.
You don't have to hurt yourself."

Obviously each line was translated independently. The back of the box says;
Features
Addcom MSX Cartridge Cleaner is the cleaner exclusively for MSX cartridges and connectors. Using your precious cartridge or connector while being contaminated by dust, oxide and such may damage the ROM cartridge and the MSX itself. Therefore periodically cleaning with the MSX Cartridge Cleaner keeps the cartridge and connector constantly in the best condition and preemptively prevents error occurrence. Special materials are used therefore use does not damage cartridge or connector.

My guess is that would be 99% isopropyl alcohol or something similar. Detergent is not something you'd want to use on card-edge connectors because it would leave a residue.

If you need to clean a card edge, dumping some isopropyl alcohol on it and giving it a light scrub with a toothbrush should do a fine job. Better yet would be to use a specialised contact cleaner (Cramolin Red is the one I remember being common in North America many years ago; Kure/CRC Contact Spray is what I use now) which requires no wiping or brushing, so you can also just spray it into card slots.

Good morning ! I'm new to MSX, so I apologize for the ridiculous questions. So, I have a MSX2 computer with a BEER IDE controller. With the help of the beeride.exe program, I marked up the CF-card and installed the MSX-DOS ver 1.03. But many programs require MSX-DOS ver 2.2 and higher.
I downloaded MSXDOS2.31.DSK and several other images with various higher versions of MSXDOS. But all of them are 720 Kb in size, and beeride.exe refuses to fill them on the CF-card, with the message "the geometry does not match". Please advise me how to install MSXDOSv.2.31 or MSXDOSv.2.44 if I don't have FDC.

As far I can see the wiki, BEER IDE is not DOS2 compatible at all.

https://www.msx.org/wiki/Beer_202

To run DOS2 you will need a DOS2 cartridge and above mentioned disk or you can get other solution of mass media storage that incorporates DOS2 kernel or NEXTOR. That would be, CARNIVORE2, MFRSCC+,GR8NET or few others.

Good morning ! Thank you very much for the quick reply! Shame on me for not noticing the disclaimer about BEER IDE being incompatible with MSX-DOS2. I'm still waiting for some ICs to arrive, and the BEER IDE seemed like the easiest to assemble. This week I will receive everything I ordered, and I will assemble the FDC and the Sunrise_IDE/NEXTOR. I hope there will be no compatibility problems.
