I have almost completed the core of the enemy's movement and animation routine for my MSX1 shoot'em'up game "Cosmic Battle". What the hell I think in a name liki this? Must be my still more poor english of 15 years ago.

Maybe for a rest of this type of programming, certainly for a desire and need for some sound in my tests, I ask:
- Which is the soft recommended to create PSG sound effects?
- Which is the soft recommended to create PSG music?
- Are there a sound bank free of charge (obviously I will credit the creators)?
- Are there free PSG music good for a shoot'em'up?

I will prefer that both music and sound effects be played by a player routine that don't is incorporated in the sound format, i.e. each music and sound is only a sequence of data that will be read by a unique routine.

I will prefer if the replys be posted in the original thread http://www.msx.org/forumtopicl4006.html for easy accompaniment purposes.

Thanks in advance!

PSG SFX: use SEEv3.x

SEE stands for Sound Effects Editor and is for PSG only.
check http://www.thefuzz.nl for more

Already downloaded!

Thanks!

To complete my needs about this subject, I want, only if exists obviously, a link to a free psg sound fx and music. Are there?

I don't know if there's a program that does both... I do know there's a program called PSG Tracker you could use to make music, don't know if it's free though... I've personally always used SEE for my SFX, but then you can't make music with that Wink I would indeed consider doing music on the SCC and effects on the PSG. Not only will the end-result be much nicer, there's free programs available for both... Mind you, SEE only runs on MSX2 systems, though you can play the results on MSX1 of course.

Sonic_aka_T,
Editing both music and sound fx is not necessary. I have liked too much the SEE.

I'm coding for the MSXDev05. The music could use SCC if present, but only PSG music and sound fx will be evaluated.

Well, I guess you could use SEE on one channel for the SFX, and PSG Tracker on two channels for the music. Like I said tho, I don't know if its PD...

you can download PSG Tracker here and SEE 3.0 over here. Both are in the MRC freeware downloads database, so.. euhm... ;)

Although Oracle supports PSG it also runs perfectly with SEE... but there's only a MIDAS/F-Kernel driver for that. sorry. (so you can skip that comment Wink )
Note that for every SEE SFX you can set a "priority" byte which can be overwritten by any PSG music driver.. there ya go. already built in. sort of.

on the fuzz site are s'm SFX located just browse through the download archive dude'm. Rip and learn perhaps. or just Rip, whatever. Else I might be able to create s'm custom sfx for ya. You're not the first one... Smile

good luck with the dev!

ro,

The priority byte is excellent for my needs. If i can set the priority of one channel to SEE sound fx driver if it is idle, wonderfull!

In my game options I have defined Music + Sound FX, Music only, Sound FX only and No sound. This options will be easy implemented by the use of this byte.

I will see the sound fx in fuzz site and try to learn. If I use some of them without modifications, that is not a problem in a freeware game, is it? I love the sound fx in Nemesis saga!

About creation of sounds fx for me, if I have a lot of difficulties, I will ask for.

Thanks and thanks and thanks again!
