I am currently working on implementing Forth on MSX-1. Partly as my Panasonic MSX computer was gathering dust in the cupboard, and most information seems to be available for older chips. MSX has a good technical specification for a Forth system. Has anyone written an MSX Forth previously?

AFAIK, there already exists an MSX Forth... written by Kuma software.

Indeed, a MSX-1 Forth on cassette was made by Kuma.

There is a small article about using Forth for the Uniface (dutch article) on http:///www.hansotten.com - MSX Magazines - PTC Print 58

Forth is a programming language.
IMHO, stands somewhere between assembler and high-level languages.

Forth is fast, compact and interactive (and compiled!). Ideal for MSX-1. Intend to use 28K BASIC RAM for entire Forth system (RAM disk, editor, assembler, interpreter and compiler). My Panasonic has 64K RAM + 16K VRAM (common on MSX-1?). Will try to utillise all available RAM on later version.

Another Forth language for MSX would be great! Even if I am not using this language, there are some old books with source code available to work with older computers.

There also exists an MSX Forth implementation written by a Japanese user. It is downloadable at www.nana.or.jp/~hiramats/hforth/nhforth.html.

In implementing Forth (Cuarto) you can learn alot about computer science. Forth can be implemented in about 3 weeks. Learning about Forth can take alot longer. Wink

I have a CAS image of Kuma Forth... Vincent van Dam converted it for me, from my original tape.
