One of the coolest utilities for MSX is currently being developed by Konamiman. His InterNestor Lite is a toolkit for MSX-DOS that allows you to connect your MSX with an ObsoNET or RS232 cartridge to the internet.

On HispaMSX we can read that Carlos de Santa-Ana García has developed an IRC client for InterNestor Lite. With this utility you can hook up your MSX to the internet and take part in the online MSX community on MSX IRC channels such as #msx on Undernet and #msxdev on the Rizon Network! To be able to download the IRC client, join this Yahoo group right now.

This is the first great app for (the also great) INL Big smile Hope more and more apps will be developped.

Also, c-irccon (as is called the IRC Client) is a very good emulator: fast, light and stable Big smile

I'll have to get a osboNet card now!

What will Nestor call his new applicaton?

Mirc? (MSX irc)
Nirc? (Nestor irc)
Kirc? (Konamiman IRC)

Has Nestor got a name for the IRC client? If not perhaps we can have a poll to decide a name?

This application is not from nestor: is from Carlos de Santa-Ana García (AKA SD-SNATCHER) and its name is C-IRCCON

Exactly... and if I'm not mistaken, the app is coded in C using the InterNestor Lite library. So you don't have to be an ASM expert to code MSX Internet applications.

[I'll have to get a osboNet card now!]

You only need a RS232 interface.

I can plug osbonet straight into my ADSL router, no need to even have my PC switched on Smile

I have a Kuma RS232 interface, but have never managed to get it to work on my TurboR, it doesnt help when you have no instructions. I guess that using a null-modem lead and configuring my PC, i could do it via the RS232 interface - so much easier on a high speed ADSL connection though Smile

I have an RS232 interface and a nullmodem cable. How do I configure my PC, though? I don't have a fucking clue how to do that.....

Is very easy to connect msx to pc via nullmodem, you can do it in 2 ways.

Connecting to a linux box with PPP server (the usefull way), with this you can setup your msx like a server using NAT.

The other, the windows way, you must use Mocha PPP from mochasoft, but in this way you only can be setup msx like client.

When you use mocha you must deactivate echo signal:

to connect:

At windows you must setup mocha, select the com port, Windows CE option & the speed: 19200 for Turbo-R, 9600 for msx2/2+

At MSX:

DRIVER (fossil driver for RS232)
INL I (to install Internestor Lite)
INL PPP E 0 (zero, to deactivate echo)
INL PPP C (to connect)

Now you are online.
