I can only say that those games that became the most popular ones on MSX are examples of games that are welcomed
birdview RPG, vertical shooter (Aleste), horizontal shooter (nemesis)
less popular perhaps, but still quite nice: screen-per-screen platformgames (Vampire Killah, Usas etc.
Adult games, right t00bs?
Wow, fighting games like "Street Fighter"!. A good Soccer Game will be great too. Porting classics for MSX it's a good thing too: i bet for these Spectrum classics: "Fred", "Phantomas", "Babaliba", "Saimazoom"...
And, without any doubt, a "Castlevania" based game for MSX1
RPG's like SD Snatcher and DS6
Also games like Kings Valey 2 and Usas
And not to forget MOG
Yes I will like to see fighting games. Street Fighter (yes, the first chapter) was superb in other 8 bit systems, like the speccy... I think SF will be a very good option in our beloved system
Perhaps it would be possible to "colorize" Match Day II like it has been done for "L'abadia del Crimen" or something. Using the same game engine but updating the GFX routines to work on MSX2 (to add colors and decrease sprite flickering)... I have no idea how much work that woud be but could be easier that writing a complete new game.
This could apply to many games in fact.
Unfortunaly not. Match Day 2 is a screen1 game and it uses sprites for the players... if it was on screen2, the game could be easily converted to screen4 and then be improved with MSX2 sprite colors...
But being on screen1 pretty much demands a complete rewrite to improve it at all...

Maybe I'm missing something here, but if you use the 'konami trick' (1 pattern table for screen 2/4), the only difference between it and screen 1 is the larger color table. The color table can then be filled with cool colours, similar to your sprite suggestion.

Technically Screen 4 isn't all that different from screen 1. Same resolution, both pattern based. It just has two color / line / pattern instead of 2 colors per pattern. And with the right settings you can even have one single pattern set for the entire screen line in screen 1 instead of 3 like in screen 2.
make it a screen 8 version.. Or screen 12 even..
Color problem solved...
