I have a nice looking and fully functional Sony GB-7 Trackball. Tested in HIDTEST, the third button will press A and B simultaneously. The price is €60.

Afaik, a trackball is compatible with a mouse. At least in MSX Basic this appears the case, both use the same PAD functions.

Indeed it will work in most if not all software that works with a mouse. I did a quick test with Philips Ease, Philips VideoGraphics and Sony Hibrid and all worked just fine. My guess is that if the software uses the BIOS functions to read the mouse it will also work with the trackball.

Perhaps my pad has a fault issue? I thought it would work with Symbos, as a mouse, but it would not function.

Are you talking about a tablet, I am not entirely sure those are read by the same BIOS routines.
