In the market for a 1chip MSX

Have been wanting one since the 1chip MSX came out, but somehow a combination of (available) and (decent price) and (money to spare) didn't happen. Finally decided to try and buy one, but... can't find one Crying Well found 1 on eBay, but at ridiculous price (USD 625). Evil

Of course price matters: I'd be willing to pay an amount in the same order of magnitude as what it was sold at. So around 200 Euro's, I'll consider offers up to 250 Euro's depending on state, extra's, location/shipping costs. Above that, I'll look for alternatives that would give me more value for money (FPGA development board, MiniMig, etc).

A seller in the Netherlands is preferred Running Naked in a Field of Flowers but worldwide shipping is acceptable. Payment possible by bank transfer or PayPal.

I would want the originally supplied documentation/sources/design files (CD), but don't care much for original packaging (although nice to have). Also a 1chip MSX that has been nuked by flashing the FPGA into a non-working state (but otherwise OK) might be acceptable. Read: one that would require a JTAG programming cable, PC software installation and re-programming to return to working order. Or similar defects that a DIY-er could fix.

Mostly I'm hoping someone bought one, but got fed up with the thing because it doesn't feel like a real MSX / unfamiliar to use, or doesn't run all / favorite MSX software. Note that I'd consider it a development platform, not just an MSX machine, and you can be sure I'd use it a lot.

You can reply to this thread or contact me by e-mail (see contacts list). I'll post here when the search ends (for whatever reason), so until then you can assume I still want one Smile

I though around 200€+shipping, but I would check how appreciate is OCM on Ebay. I would not sell it for a bargain price, just a fair one.

Sounds reasonable, but I think a OCM would do well on eBay since they're rarely on offer. I haven't seen any lately other than an occasional 'Buy Now' offer at 400+ Euro's. Don't think those are reasonable prices, and for 400+ Euro's you can buy much, much more capable hardware.

The primary reason I'd spend 200~250 Euro's on a OCM in the first place is the form factor - nice box, ready to go, cartridgeslots and useful connectors included. Read: no DIY / development job to get started. But value for money? Hardly.... the parts should cost 100 Euro tops, and get cheaper as time passes. Oh, and it's only partial MSX2 compatible, let alone MSX2+ or Turbo-R. Still don't understand why those Japanese guys aren't simply building some more, they should be easy to sell. But hey, I'm not running that outfit Murdoch

Reason I posted here is exactly to avoid a bidding war on eBay (for OCM's that aren't on offer), so yeah this might turn into a long wait Shocked!

Wow, already at 190 Euro with 9 days to go. This should do 250 Euro's or more easily. In other words - another 1chip MSX I won't have. Thx Hannibal

The search has ended... I got one! LOL!LOL!

The 1chip arrived today, and first tests were okay so I guess I'm all set... To do: solder RGB (Scart) cable, order Altera-suitable JTAG programming cable. I know it's possible to reconfigure the FPGA using a program that runs on the 1chip MSX, but you need a working MSX configuration for that. Using a JTAG cable allows you to 'step outside' those bounds. Highly desired since I'm not thinking of MSX-only uses, and the trial-error-learn aspect is high on my agenda.

Disclaimer: yeah I was highest bidder in above auction Evil so my budget for things MSX might be limited for a while.
