Ys2: help needed

Hi, I am playing this game with the English translated version and the help of the tips/maps from the Peeks, Pokes & Truuks book (edition 4), but I seem to be stuck...

Deep within the caves there is rubble in front of the door. My logic, as well as the tip in the book, tells me to use the pick. But that only leads to the phrase that the pick is "rusty, but still usable". Nothing happens.

Secondly, at the section with all those ladders and ice, I don't have the boots to climb the slides. Where can I get those?

Thanks!

I know that the ice section, wasn't it called Noltia, has some hidden caves/rooms. I know one is hidden just next to a ladder, in fact you can enter the hidden room by entering 'behind' the ladder.

Didnt't you have a item that can reveal hidden rooms. Hidden entrances are flashing white. Thats the trick.

If you're already at the "Ice Ridge of Noltia", I don't think you have to use the pick anymore. Smile
Anyway, about the location of the boots, you can find some maps here:

Thanks both! That helped to me get moving on. Especially the maps that you indicated John.

If someone else is stuck at some point as well, here are some things I found out:
- apparently I needed to reach a certain strength level before I could use the fire rod and destroy the ice at the ice cave. After that was gone, I easily could find the boots and continue the game
- I am still not sure what needs to be done deep inside the cave where a gate is blocked by rubble. The pokes book tells that the pick is to be used, but apparently that is only applicable to the screen before that. I assume that the blocked gate will become relevant later in the game
- At the bridge in the village at the lava level, you need to use the fourth rod ('dress like a rabit') and talk to the figure near the bridge. After that, use the fire rod. You will get the earrings, which you can use in the lava level where a wall is cracked. You need to give the black pearl to the figure inside the wall.

My pleasure Feiraco, now, good luck and go kick the Blue Pearl's ass! Smile
About your last point: the progression of the story is simply triggered when you talk to the guy looking like a monster, and then revert to your human form and bump into him again. He will realize he was talking to you all the time. So you technically don't need to equip the fire rod; just unequipping the "rabbit rod" Big smile is enough.
Also: you're in for some thorough puzzling/dungeon action once you enter the sewers of Solomon's Palace. Wink

Great game, finished it multiple times, even in Japanese Tongue

And be sure to start Ys 3 after finishing Ys 2 LOL!

I second evulopah's motion. Smile
The first Ys game is not so shabby, either. It's not polished like Ys 2, but just as fun.
Allow me share a trick for the first Ys with you guys: equip the "Mask of Eyes" at the final battle. The holes he makes in the floor will be reduced in size, making the battle a lot easier. I 'm pretty sure this works in the SMS version as well. Don't know about the NES version.

This is new for me. Thanks John. Does Hydragon know?
