Hi there.
I recently found out the japanese only fourth installment in SSI's Phantasie-seriers - Phantasie IV Birth of Hero.
I've got dsk-files for both the django's english version as well as original japanese, but none of the seems to work. I tried to start them from floppy disks as well as with sofarunit and using different settings, ram mapper as well as without.

The best I get is a black title screen, but not game. I use a Philips NMS 8250 with Carnivore2.
Any ideas of how to boot the game?

I tried the disk image on an emulated NMS 8250 and it works fine. Did you put the disk image on floppy disks correctly? Did you boot with the correct disk? (There's a Player disk and a Scenario disk... boot with the former.)

Thanks for help Manuel. I finally managed to get it to work. I tried to copy the discs again basically, but this time I copied them from dsk to floppies in Sofarun. I realised that this (dsk to floppy in Sofarun) is so much more convenient and more safe than using my USB-floppy drive on modern pc and Disk-Manager. Feels good since I'm not much a fan of unpacking the usb-drive anyway Smile

Nice to hear the dsk to floppy feature of SofaRun is useful Smile But still, I’d like to know why the dsk are not working... will try to have a look one of these days...

I used the dsk-files from File Hunters data base and the Django translation was probably from the passionmsx-archive (think I got it from a torrent file long time ago).

and yes the floppy feature is just awsome. without it I wouldn't be able to play SD Sntacher, since those DSKs are not very happy with Disk Manager.

Hi Siddy,

I think I have a patch for that game allowing it to work with SofaRun (I already fixed Might and Magic book II in the past, which had also been developped by Startcraft and uses the same kind of code).

You can temporary download it here: phantasie4.zip

I have no time to do exstensive tests, but if that works I'll add it to my official "patches" page. I'd be curious to know if it also works after the Django translation patch has been applied.

The game looks nice by the way :) I also noticed the disk has to be write-enabled to be able to start a new game (pressing [N] at start).

I will try it, am I suppose to replace the User disk/boot disk with the dsk in the link?
Django translation is in dsk form, i don't know if he may have release it as an isp as well.

Btw, do you have any solutions on how to run War of the Dead? I tried both dsk and rom versions but with no luck, the sram-thing keep blocking start up and the dsk-version just won't load proper in sofarun and not as a floppy either.

It’s a concatenated version (you have both disks in the same dsk).
