I tried MXDRV on real hardware today and it does work and play back the MDX files. It is however only working with SFG-05 BIOS. I tried with

  • an original Japanese SFG-05 connected through a UCN-01 (works)
  • an original European SFG-01 connected through a UCN-01 (fails and ends in basic)
  • an original Japanese SFG-01 connected through a UCN-01 (fails and ends in basic)
  • an RBSC SFG clone in SFG-05 mode (works)
  • an RBSC SFG clone in SFG-01 mode (fails and ends in basic)

Tested with both MSX-DOS v2.30 (from floppy), MSX-DOS V2.41/V2.44 (from MMCSD) as well as Nextor 2.10 (from C2).

I added this as a comment to the issue on GitHub as well.

So, there is no bug in openMSX then, right?

There is definitely something wrong in openMSX. With an emulated SFG-05 or even an emulated SFG-01 with the modified SFG-05 BIOS MXDRV loads fine, MXP2 loads the MDX file and starts playback but there is no sound output whilst on real HW sound is output.

The trouble is how to figure out what is going wrong?
