I have a prototype of a single handed controller for North Sea Helicopter but I am stuck trying to run the game from SD Mapper.
I have managed to get the Disk version, that is composed of a tiny basic program that loads 3 blocks of code, but before the game can be completely loaded there is an error message that is not possible to read because the charaterset is corrupted.
I have looked for a ROM version of the game but so far I haven't succeeded to find it anywhere.

Any Ideas?

I have a .dsk image which has a "poke -1, 170" line in the basic loader, maybe you need to fix that?

That poke is supposed to be for machines with RAM in slot 3-2, check this Wiki article:

I don't know if it is true, But I once heared that poke -1,170 isn't the same as poke &HFFFF,&HAA on some machines. So I guess, it can't hurt to try.

if you remove poke -1,170 and replace it with POKE -1,(15-PEEK(-1)\16)*17 at least that part is sorted out.
There are (at least) three poke -1,x versions. Using the wrong one will reset the computer. This poke is intelligent and finds out which the correct version for your computer is.

So, what are you trying to do? YOu copy the files to the SD Mapper and run the loader?

The POKE -1, 170 doesn't hurt if there's no subslots involved. A standard Hotbit doesn't have subslots. But with the SD mapper you probably get a subslot with RAM and MSX-DOS2/Nextor.

Unfortunately, the SD Mapper isn't emulated, so I can't figure it out for you. Also, I don't know which disk version you found.

Yes, I have copied the .bas loader and the three binaries to the root of the SD card, then ran the .bas loader from basic.
