Or a Megarom version :-) The C64 port seems to also be using an external ROM cart to compensate for the lack of memory.
Guys, I think I am going to attempt this port.
I have all the assets from the open source version and technically seems quite doable.
If somebody wants to join, the more the merrier; I will need help specially with the music.
Target is msx2, big megarom.
Wow! That would be great!!! Sorry I can 't help but I really love to see this game on our MSX!
Just diving into it... and I found the "small detail" that turns out to be the biggest problem:
no port other than spectrum uses 256px horizontal resolution, all use 320px or 280px (original) resolution. In the NES port (also has 256px resolution, but the rooms are 320px wide) this is solved by using horizontal scrolling within a room. This is nice because it preserves both the original map structure and graphics.
The spectrum port just shrinks both graphics and map so that everything fits in 256px.
I think the scrolling solution is nicer (and also less work, because of rebuilding the assets); and doable because only requires scrolling a maximum of 64px left or right.
The Master System version uses the 256pixels resolution.
It would be very cool to have this game on MSX! Maybe add the option (later) to use V9958 horizontal scrolling feature?
@Maggoo, I see. It uses a similar map as the spectrum one.
As many probably know, the existence of game was confirmed in the Spanish MSX-Club magazine. Of course they were fake news. Back then the source of many news was just worth of mouth and, inexplicably, they gave truth to the rumour and even published a small article about the game for MSX (!).
It must be said that an 8-bit port of the game was probably being planned in 1991 according to Javier Fáfula (a progammer that made many Spectrum-MSX ports, TMHT for instance) but in the end the only 8-bit home computer that got it was the Amstrad CPC (and it is a highly sought-after title).
An MSX2+ version would be very nice, indeed, and it does not seem to be the hardest game to port to MSX.
The CPC port of Prince of Persia looks very nice. I am not familiar with the specs of the CPC but I believe it supports hw scrolling.
If resolution would be the only snag you could go for MSX2 + V9990 for the game. Anyway you do it though it would be a very welcome addition to the MSX. So I would really welcome it...
