1- In "Penguin Adventure" what is the significance of the green and pink hearts?
The blue is for flying and the yeloow is like a shield, but what about the pink and the green?

2- How do I gain extra lives?
In the bonus level, catching a "yellow" fish will do so I guess. Are there any other ways for doing so.

3- I made it to level 24, and when I finished it I was told that "it's too late" and it seems that the penguin princess is dead.
Is it because of the time it took me or is it because I did not collect a necessary object?

Thanks a lot Smile

Pink: Bonus points to your score.
Green: Extra time.

I guess that it is the only way. I don't remember to gain any extra life for getting score points.

That's one of the most discussed things about Penguin Adventure. I heard some time ago of someone that completed the game with the good ending by not pausing the game more than once, and no using any shortcuts at all.

  1. the manual could probably tell you as well, but the magenta heart gives you points, the green one gives you 50 seconds extra
  2. apart from the gold fish, iirc you get an extra life at 10000, 30000, 50000, etc.
  3. this has to do with the number of times you pause the game: 1, 5, 9, 13, 17, etc.

thanks a lot.

BiFI,

What does iirc mean?

I did not pause by the usual way for pausing, I'm using a ROM, and I'm saving where I stop and then complete from where I saved. Does it count this as pausing too.
What is the allowed times to pause that will not prevent me from finishing the game and meeting the princes.

Thanks.

I have completed Penguin Adventure on numerous occasions. You really need to use the running shoes to complete the game quick enough to save the princess. I'll have a go again and post the .STA file from BlueMSX if i manage it.

I usually gamble all enough fish to get the wings, shoes, and skates by stage 3. If I haven't done it by then I will start again.

If you use an emulator, try using a refresh rate of 50hz to "slow" the game down, all good fun!

From here:

One extra information, if you are using one of the passwords ("noriko" or "kazumi" ) and have to press <F5> to continue, the internal "pause counter" is reset! That is, if you had to use <F5> to continue, you will have to press <F1> to pause the game once again. Actually, you can pause the game as much as you want or need and, before going to the last stage, lose all your lives and press <F5> to continue and reset the "counter". A good solution is to pause the game just before meeting the last freezaurus, but be careful, once you are engaged to the battle, the game cannot be paused anymore!!!

The only requirement to get the good ending is the number of pauses. It was explained here some years ago.

Thanks everbody, that was very useful. Smile

I'm using BlueMSX. and I hve never paused, I jut save where I stop and then resume the other day.
I did not buy the necklace, could that be a reason.

If anyone has the STA file of stage 24, I'll be grafeul. I'm really eager to see how it look at the end.

Thanks again Smile
