AFAIK it looks at the normal region data, so it will not work on any MSX with a non-Japanese BIOS.
Hi,
I have the same problem for metal gear and now I was wondering: instead of buying a new MSX2 with japanese bios is there a way to flash the current bios and install a japanese version?
Also, I have a similar problem with SD snatcher: the disk seems to load and the HDD keeps active but nothing happens a clear blue screen is the only thing visible.
I have a philips msx 2 VG8235 . Any advice and help is much appreciated. I have finaly collected all three (2 games plus computer) to relive the old days and I still can not play them.
Cheers,
dirk
Well as far as I know, an ips patch is made to make the japanese Metal Gear run on european msxes. But that only works on the rom image of course.
You can not flash the BIOS ROMs., they're really ROMs. Just get the European version, or if you can read Japanese, get a Japanese MSX2.
SD Snatcher runs fine on European machines. Did you insert the sound cartridge? Maybe the data on the disk is damaged?
Welcome to the forum Kokkie_d,
you have a 8235, the diskdrive is double sided? because originally is was supplied with a single sided drive. that might be the problem.
good luck
Oh, very good point indeed That's probably it.
Hi Manual,
thanks for the response. I have been assured that the SD Snatcher data is fine. Can the problem lie in the fact that the philips MSX 2 VG8235 has a 360kb diskdrive? ( I can not find out what type of disks the SD snatcher disks are)
The SD-snatcher disks are 720 kb, so you need an other MSX2/ replace the disk drive...
Yep, as I said, that's probably it. In fact, that must be it.
Thanks for the advice.
I'll look into it.
Sorry, for double post but I missed that a new forum page had been created. my appologies for that.
cheers
