Excuse my ignorance; I found the v3.3 rc3 firmware but how do I install it on my 1chipmsx? Also; I saw an 1chipmsx for sale on Ebay with TurboR capabilities firmware; is that this or?

@slowerisbetter: today you can use an OCM as MSX2+ , the OCM uses almost the entirety of the fpga, width the actual code expand it to TurboR is a very hard work, there isn't any implementation of the code R800 for the fpga and I suppose it neds a bigger fpga.

@x-nen Thanks for that! Now the other part of my question so I can try it Smile

The modded version on Ebay is a hardware mod then?

I very very much doubt so. More likely he means he changed the firmware to one of the KdL ones, which has no R800 support but does add the other features compared to the original 1chipMSX. The seller must have not remembered the feature set right.

You can install the new firmware width the pldflash.com tool you cand find at: http://gnogni.altervista.org/ on the ocm-extrapack

I see the photo on ebay and it seems no hardware modifications on the ocm,

"Modifications" = upgraded firmware. Read: bugfixed / extended FPGA configuration & modified system ROMs. Which includes:
"R800 Turbo R CPU" = turbo Z80 (10 MHz or so). Unless seller did some FPGA development in person. Tongue But if anyone has been working on FPGA implementation of the R800, chances are we'd have read about that - NOT.

It's a very nice set, but about double price of its actual value. 1chipMSX itself is a bit of a wildcard these days, for the rest: just add up, and you get nowhere near that asking price. Some of the included items can still be purchased new.

R800 is not so important, most important is compatible slot when z80 is clocked up.

If I remember right, the 10mhz figure is not a maximum, but "with some cartridges the slots still work".

With actual firmware is the maximum, exactly 10,76Mhz. With this z80 speed, games like Illusion City runs as fast as Turbo R version.

10MHz Z80 same speed than R800 seem unlikely
I know anybody working on R800 FPGA. not a member here Cool

Also, if I understand KdL’s documentation correctly, I think the bus clock is 10 MHz (I wonder if that’s healthy for cartridges) but the CPU clock is 8 MHz or so.

The R800 is 5-6x as fast as Z80 at 3.58 Mhz.
