After the next release we'll be switching to Visual Studio 2012 which means that the WindowsXP platform might not be supported anymore. I was wondering who still uses WindowsXP so I can make a decision on what to do with a new piece of hardware (Compiler Server) I have dedicated to the openMSX project.

Yes, I still use Windows XP - never had anything newer after that. But, I don't use emulators, they stink. Tongue

Windows XP is still used a lot, but mostly on older systems (for most users, Vista / Win7 comes with a computer upgrade).

Personally I'm on Linux exclusively (Debian "testing" distro), with 1 or 2 small Windows programs running under Wine. Not 'perfect' (same as other OS'es, there's always some things to complain about). But fits my computer use very well, runs rock solid, open source & doesn't put money in M$'s pocket. Smile2

Similar here - I switched to Linux (Mint) because Vista/Win7 just did not seem to get it right imho. In Virtualbox I occasionally run Win32 software in WinXP. Also, on my older computer I still run WinXP. I might install Win7 on it someday, but haven't felt the need so far...

FWIW: from what I've heard Win7 is pretty good when it comes to what matters (stability, security & user interface). Just the system requirements might be high for what it offers, buying it separately un-attractive for those who keep their machine & just re-install the OS. And pirating too much trouble? Question

But I'd expect XP to be phased out relatively quick once MS support ends (planned for april 2014), and those older machines are upgraded / replaced.

I'm still using it, probably because my PC is old too. Smile
