hi,

some months ago i tried all my MSX/MSX 2 games collection and they worked fine. Bow i'm trying some games but i'm not able anymore to play them...
For example, in order to launch .dsk games, i have to use the INSERT DISK option. But this option isn't present anymore!

in additon, for some games, it requested a mapper. For example Aleste2.zip requests a mapper. How can I know which is the mapper I have to use? Is there a default mapper that i can set for most games?

Last question: in order to update to the last stable version, 17.0, can i unzip all the contend of the .zip file in my emulator folder? thank you

thank you!

The reason the disk option is missing, is because you are using a C-BIOS machine, which only supports ROM images.
In that same menu, go to "Hardware", followed by "Change Machine", and then switch to a model that actually has a disk drive. Smile
Note that you'll need to have the appropriate systemroms for the selected machine. See openMSX documentation about system roms. On Windows those would go into C:\Users\$userName\Documents\openMSX\share\systemroms.

As for updating, extracting the ZIP archive should suffice yes. Though better solution perhaps would be to make sure you normally don't change/add anything in the openMSX program directory and instead add any additional scripts, software and system roms in the appropriate folders in C:\Users\$userName\Documents\openMSX\share. That way you can just replace the entire openMSX program directory with a newer version. Smile

(Unless there are any breaking config format changes, it's also possible this way to run multiple versions of openMSX side-by-side.)

ah ok thanks! Well, i usually set as default Panasonic FS-A1GT and it always worked...now it doesn't work:

probably i lost the .roms file...? My C:\Users\user\Documents\openMSX\share\systemroms folder is empty...is there a pack with all the files needed for all the most useful machine? In this specific case i have to search for fs-a1gt_firmware.rom file..
i searched for it, i founded a fsa1gt.zip file that includes all these files:

But i don't knwo if it is correct...

EDIT:as I have 2 different MSX emulator folder (MSX and MSX2) i would like to keep the installation/configuration files in the same emulator folder, so i can avoid to overwrite the settings. But i see that i also have a "share" folder in this path: C:\Users\user\Documents\openMSX\share

All the "systemroms" folder are empty:
C:\Users\user\Documents\openMSX\share\systemroms
D:\EMULATORI\MSX\share\systemroms
D:\EMULATORI\MSX2\share\systemroms

How can i fix this and configure openMSX? i would like 2 keep separated the 2 installation. And I downloaded the cbios zip pack from here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/cbios/files/cbios/
Unizpped it, there are these files/folers: https://i.postimg.cc/zGNPM1VF/Cattura.png

And these are the files included in every folder:

Please can you help me to set correctly everything?
Many thanks!

As the system roms are a bit of a grey legal area, I don't want to link directly to them, but you should be able to find them easily by searching with an online search engine for msx systemroms.zip

Note that C-BIOS is already included with openMSX. No need to download it.

thanks both.
So i hjave downloaded the systemroms.zip file, it inclueds these 3 folders (with a lot of files inside):
https://i.postimg.cc/pT4JPjxz/Cattura.png

I have to copy the 3 folders in my systemroms folder in the OpenMSX installation folder, right? If so, how can i keep separeted the 2 installation folder "MSX" and "MSX2"? Currently i have these 2 folders, but automatically openMSX created these folders in this path:C:\Users\user\Documents\openMSX
https://i.postimg.cc/6QSvZNSN/Cattura2.png

I think that it is not useful because i would likle to keep all the installation and configurations file in MSX and MSX2 folders. But i didn't find any option in openMSX due to set the configuration/installation folder...

thank you!

Why do you want to split up the system ROMs folder?

well because i'm not wrong, there is a good default setting to run MSX games and another default settings to run MSX2 games. I need this because usually i would like to run games using a launcher, Launchbox in particular. And if i use a launcher i don't want to change OpenMSX settings everytime: if possible i would like to directly star MSX games and MSX2 games. For this reason if i keep separated the 2 installation folders, i can do that..

Well, that's quite the overkill (double installation only because of the 'default_machine' setting in openMSX being different). In general, most MSX2 computers can run all MSX1 games. So you can just use the MSX2 configuration.
