Just plain RAM right, no mapper.

And can you confirm the thing has an S3527 and a Zilog brand Z80?
That's what the Wiki says...

The Sanyo MPC-X article says the device is from 1984 and has a V9938. That seems an unlikely combination. Any source that can confirm this?

It's actually 1985.

Mentioned in ASCII News of June 1985: https://www31.atwiki.jp/tagoo/pages/23.html

I need again to rectify - see Japanese Wiki : https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSX

MPC-X(三洋電機)

MPC-X (Sanyo Electric)

The number of screens that can be held with the number of colors and resolution has changed, such as one for 16 colors and 4 for 2 colors. So, it desn't look like it was a V9938 then.

I have two options :
* OR it's a prequel to the V9938
* OR it's a V9938 but the BIOS/BASIC is not fully ready (especially screen 8 is missing)

We'll only know for sure when this device will be opened. Note that I've written "Apparently", this word has all its importance.

If you use that word, can you explain why it is apparent that the V9938 was used?

I agree. The V9938 can not display an image of 256x204 dot and first machines with v9938 was been released almost one year later.
