gdx, the madscient opinion is probably also motivated by the fact that just few users (particularly one) were pushing, even treating Nishi rudely and with a total lack of respect, that the V9990 must be part of the MSX3. It's surprising how just one person can damage the image of the (Spanish) MSX scene worldwide. Unfortunately this doesn't help and creates a false image of us. It's a shame.

Indeed, most of Japanese user who understands that V9990 is not even a de-facto-standard but just a private option, disgusted by his rude behavior.

I don't know who this Spanish guy is and i do not endorse his reaction nor what he thinks. I only reacted to what madscient wrote in brackets and the way he did it which is as clumsy as this Spanish guy i think.

As a practical matter, the MSX slots are too dependent on the Z80's characteristics to provide compatibility for hardware options, let alone software (even the OCM is not fully compatible).
What I have written in brackets is a very realistic expectation, and a mere fact that we should not expect too much from hardware cartridges to be compatible.

I don't understand at all why people who chose the V9990 for its performance over the V9958 (and abandoned compatibility with the V9958) would want the MSX3 to be compatible with the V9990 when it promises to be even better.

Although the v9990 is a nice VDP, in my opinion it was never ment for the MSX standard. The one and only fact substantiating this is that it is not compatible with the MSX predecessors.
In fact I also see the whole Turbo-R series as something that shouldn't had happened, it's just a frankenstein within the MSX serie. It was nice but it didn't brought the MSX serie to the next level Sad

That's because, if I understood Mr Nishi correctly, the turbo R was never supposed to happen. It was supposed to be the MSX 3, with fast R800 processor and V9978. But the latter wasn't finished in time and was later released as V9990, after the compatibility with V9958 was removed.
That original MSX3 would have brought MSX to the next level, I think! Alas, it didn't happen.

I don’t know what happened but Mr. Nishi is quite active on Twitter the last month or so.
I like it! Smile

He also added some insights about MSX3 functionality and positioning in the market.

Basically:
- adapter for 8K resolution display!!
- high end audio
- IOT
- cheap supercomputer ( connecting dozens of MSX3/or MSX3 engines together)

This will be more then just something like raspberry Pi clone

And he seems to say that this adapter will be for general use. (so not only for ROM cartridges)
