Actually starting to play with my New ST. While having A1-WSX with 512kb internal RAM plus 4mb esternalità Padial expansion I prepared an autoexec.bat which loaded Fat16 patch an MC commander at start. Now with the same autoexec and standard 256k internal memory with padial expansion I cannot load both Fat16 and MC. I always get "Not enough memory" message. Any clue? Or any instruction to input ti bypass this problem?

Hello,

What for programme is "MC" ?

I know that the combination "Turbo R", "Padial expansion" and a "external memory
mapper" the inside memory (256k) faster is then the external memory.

Have you already tried the "BS" key ?

The turbo r will select the internal mapper as default mapper, because it's internal memory is faster than the external memory. Also it will use 64KB of this memory for the bios. So on a turbo r with 256KB you will not have some much ram free in the primary mapper. The external mapper will not help you... unless you use some tool to select the primary mapper Wink. I forget the name of that tool.

I will try with the "BS" trick, which I assume is backspace. That should switch to the external mapper as far as I understood.

Thanks a lot everybody.

another solution is to upgrade your Turbo-r ST to 512k
It's easy to do...
3 x cms chips to sold, 2 x 44256 memory chips, and one 1k resistance ; that's all you need. Wink

I'm doing something wrong here. What should happen when I start the Turbo R while holding down BS? Shouldn't it switch to external mapper (4Mb) as first mapper?

Because I still get same "not enough memory" message after I load FAT16.com when trying to start MC Commander, so I suppose Turbo R is still working on internal 256kb mapper.

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot in advance

Just a short update. Starting Romturbo at the very beginning of autoexec.bat I can handle again at least the startup of FAT16 and MC commander as before.

Anyway I'm not able to switch to the external mapper, even booting Dos 1 and trying Memtr. ST hangs just after Memtr performs the check and tries to make external mapper primary and I can't do anything but reset the computer.

Tried every single setup with external memory in slot expander or in main slots.

The "BS" backspace trick only works with the Padial SD/MMC interface.

Same problem here... MemTR:
* (512k turboR) trying to start Symbos with external memory mapper (for 1Mb SymbOS) and sunrise IDE CF with MSX-DOS1. MemTR Hangs!!
* MemTR allows to continue only if I boot from Floppy (DOS1 indeed) oO
