Turbo-R Keyboard Cleaning Questions

1. Anyone try to cleaning Panasonic Turbo-R's keyboard?

I did it once, if it's not too dirty just using a (good) vacuum cleaner on it should help. Also, try turning the computer upside down while banging it on a table. No, I'm not kidding, ofcourse you shouldn't exagerate either.

2. Can I pull a key from keyboard without opening the case?

I think you can, yeah... Not 100% sure tho. Just try it using a dull kife, try to ease them off. I'm sure you *can't* take the big keys off tho. They do come off, but I remeber they had like a small metal bar underneath that's kind of a pain to get into place again.

3. Shall I use lubricants to that key?

Probably not required. Unless normal cleaning really doesn't work, I wouldn't. Some lubricants tend to get sticky over time while others have the opposite effect once they start to accumulate dust (which a keyboard always will). Also be careful not to use an errosive or abrasive lubricant. Some lubricants will eat up the conductive layer on the film thats inside the keyboard; that would not be something you'd want...

IF you decide to open the computer, be *VERY* careful when moving the keyboard. It is fixed to the mainboard with two very thin printed-flatcables. Tear one of these and you will need to find yourself another keyboard. This is a real pain in the arse, so make sure you do not damage these flatcables in any way.

btw: i prefer to bang the keyboard in the "air" instead of a table, shake it and your table will be covered with many neat little things.

Still, try banging it on a table next... You'd be surprised... I think mine once housed a family of raccoons...

Not working? Hmm.... Lemme think... Well, try some table-top-banging as I suggested, and if that fails either take off the keys and vacuum, or consider opening up the computer to take out the keyboard. That should make it a lot easier to clean.

If all else fails, I guess you should consider using a lubricant then... Make sure you pick the right one for the job tho. Standard silicone may be too abbrasive... If you can, try opening the keyboard itself and remove the printed film before applying the lubricant. Remember not to tear the film! Then spray each keyhole, wait for it to dry a bit and once you're sure it's not gonna leak anymore, put the whole thing back together.
