Hi CASDuino,

Looks like an interesting project! Will it support the REM signal to start / stop the player ? This can be nice for games like Gauntlet and some others that are loading stages sequentially from the tape ?

I'm also wondering if recording is supported ?

@Louthrax I work on the CASDuino and TZXDuino projects which have REM so it does pause and play in the right places. Gauntlet is a strange one as when you get to the start screen and press fire it unpauses the playback but you need to hit space for it actually to start to 'hear' the playback. Other than that it works normally.

The SVI-CAS Image player is by @Romsey and is a similar concept but completely independent with many differences. As far as I can tell from what I've read of the documentation, it too has REM support and will possibly have the same issue with Gauntlet

CAS/TZXDuino do not support recording and in their current iterations will never support recording as the memory of the arduino 328P is pushed to it's limits. Future versions with more powerful microcontrollers will hopefully include record.

Again, from reading the documentation SVI-CAS does not record either but I'm sure @Romsey would be happy to clarify that.

Is there a place to currently order one?

I would just need the device, as I already have a SVI Cassette Interface adapter.

@Louthrax

Hi Louthrax,

There is a link to the owners manual for SVI-CAS on the first page of this thread about 50% of the way down, the manual will explain all the playback modes it offers, no it doesn't record - I was considering adding this as I know how I will do it, but am undecided as how many people would use it in reality - most just want to be able to load games. The unit offers full computer-motor control as well as a direct manual option for every data block that has a pause encoded within it, also there is a tape memory feature just like a real tape deck, again its all in the manual in more detail

Regards

@Rastersoft

Hi Rastersoft,

I'm slightly confused by you stating you already have an SVI adapter for SVI-CAS since I make them - as I don't believe I've actually sold you one before. Take a look at the SVI-CAS user manual to see what it looks like, you may be confusing it for something else. To order you directly purchase from my self, I'll be posting an email address to contact me for sales shortly.
I'm just in the process of waiting for some PCBs to arrive from China to do another build.

Regards

For anyone interested, I note that a quick initial review of the unit has been posted by Electric Adventures on youtube, the link is:

@Romsey
I have the SV-3TI interface. I think the original name for it was SVI Cassette Interface adapter..

Hi everyone,

I now have 4 units available for purchase, 1 black unit and 3 grey units, if you are interested in a grey unit it is also possible to have a different colour frame around the TFT display, you would have the additional choice of a black frame or a white frame, checkout the following pics to see what this looks like on a grey unit:

http://users.tpg.com.au/romsey/SVI/Grey-Black.JPG
http://users.tpg.com.au/romsey/SVI/Grey-White.JPG

Please note that the black unit already has a black frame bonded to the case, so I can't change that one.

Cost is $110 Australian for a unit and $25 for an SVI adapter cable if you need one, if you don't intend using this unit with an SVI-318/328 machine then you don't need it. If you own a 318/328 then you will need it!

Other machines supported: MSX, TRS-80 CoCo, Sinclair ZX Spectrum, ZX81, ZX80

As I've stated previously, before committing to a purchase, please read the user manual so you fully understand what this unit can do versus what it can't, if its not in manual then it can't do it. The manual can be downloaded via:

http://users.tpg.com.au/romsey/SVI/SVI-CAS.pdf

If you would like a postage quote ask me and specify your country please.

It is first come first served, I will be making at least another 30 units when my next batch of PCBs arrives (expecting any day now), so anyone who wants one will be able to get one even if they miss out at this time.

Units are sold with a 90 day warranty on parts and labor. Postage within Australia is $9.20 standard tracked and $12 express (1 day) tracked, be warned, postage outside of Australia is very slow at the moment.

To contact me to purchase or get a postage quote email: svi_projects@protonmail.com

Got my SVI-CAS and it is working well loading MSX CAS and TSX. Thanks Duncan.
Vintage loading screens are great.
