what's the purpose of the battery housing on the bottom of the unit?
What those batteries are powering ?

The Real Time Clock, as any MSX2. (or most of them).

On the pictures a 'Speed controller' is visible.

What speed can be controlled with this slider?

You can slow down the CPU, as far as I know.

He also has speed control, but never understood the real use of this button.

Its the Rensha. The autofire speed for space key.

Um... so that one on the right is the Rensha and the other one is not the Rensha then :D

SPEED-CONTROLLER = slow motion (I guess it can be combined with the Pause key)

REN-SHA-TURBO = auto-fire
