In same advert there reads

An external video input pin lets you input a standard broadcast signal, have the TMS9918A overlay text/graphics, and output the resultant mix to a color display. Imagine the possibilities this feature offers: subtitles, interactive broadcasting - and more.

Superimposing, you don´t need MSX2 for this. Wink

The original use was to get some tms stacked i think. Imagine what one can do with 100 TMS stacked.... Tongue

I love the advertisement. The ability to display simultaneuos sprite planes is called "3-D capability". How cute. Smile

Superimpose is used with this chip, e.g. in the Pioneer PX-7 and PX-V60.

The interview talks about the 9985... isn't that the 9958?

Smile Yeah, but advertisement talks about thirtyFIVE sprites!

Someone there had some misunderstanding or is it just a typo, or was it there because of some earlier sprite experiments, as we know now, it´s possible to get more than 32 sprites.... maybe someones were remembering those "undocumented" sprite planes when they wrote sketch for that advertisement? Who knows? Question

@MASAXI: 35 is 32 planes+background plane+border plane+super imposed plane, 32+3=35
THERE ARE NO 35 SPRITES Other wise the vdp status reg. 7 should be nine bits instead of 8 to hold a possible 34 value
