Project Melancholia should work fine. The readme.txt explains how to flash the game using the old DSK emulation method (/Dx option) In that case you need to hold S to enable the SCC

Using EMUFILE (default method) does not need to hold any key to enable the SCC/SCC+
So if you are using MultiMente to load the game, just press RETURN on any of the .FDx files of the game. Then press reset and the game should boot.
In some configurations you may need to hold SHIFT while booting to get more free RAM.

About Snatcher English translation. IIRC, it has some limitations related to the slot of the RAM, disk driver, SCC... but I have played it with sound using MFR SCC+ SD (using DSKs or installing it on the SD in a folder)

Maybe something went wrong when I patched my dsk files.

I used a rom called just the same as on the one on the romhacking entry, and I verified the SHA-1.
ZZZ-UNK-SD SNATCHER JAPANESE FOR SCC+[DISK 1].dsk
SHA-1: 4CEF12AE13334ED4F3F890311B641C1AD2BDC408

I've made a FD1, FD2, FD3 and FD4 out of the three disk files and the user disk provided in the patch release zip file.

I'm using a Panasonic FS-A1WSX, I'm playing on a NTSC TV and I'm in Canada with a 100V downstepper. While I did experiment unsuccessfully with SofaRun when trying the previous Konami Game Collection roms, I'm back to using the cart with the regular MultiMente it came with. I didn't try any other method than pressing return on my FD1 disk or loading only the first disk as a DSK file, again by pressing enter. It's a very recent cart too, so I'm assuming the MultiMente and other programs on it are up to date.

Again, during the SCC detection, it finds my MegaFlashRom SCC+ SD. I don't have any additional RAM aside from the flash cart. I do have a JoySnes plugged in, but I truly doubt that's relevant.

And yet, no music at all.

EDIT : I tried a disk set named Super Deformed Snatcher as well, that resulted in a black screen right after the SCC detection screen.

Maybe you don't have enough RAM to run the Project Melancholia mapper version that runs on any SCC cartridge. It requires at least 128kB of memory mapper and the WSX comes with only 64kB.

So I can't both use the RAM and the SCC from the MegaFlashRom?
Would this be solved by getting another RAM cartridge?

There are two kinds of RAM here. Every MFRSCC+SD has, IIRC, 8MB of Flash RAM. This RAM is used to emulate cartridges and, AFAIK, also disks. It's not actually a MSX standard memory expansion. Some MFRSCC+SD models also have 512kB of memory mapper, which may be necessary to run some software (most MSX software runs with only 64kB, though). My particular model doesn't have this memory mapper, but my FS-A1F was internally expanded to 1MB, so it runs nearly everything. The A1WSX can be internally expanded to 512kB without much difficulty and even to 1MB by dedicated tinkerers, AFAIK.

Oh, I have the MFRSCC+SD with 512kb RAM. I get the 576KB Ram on the boot screen. Is that alright then?

Which patch did you use on which disk, exactly?

The M ones from the project melancholia website. The rom used was the one with name and SHA-1 mentioned earlier.

Alright, I found my problem... I was following the translation's readme and holding the S key upon boot... but apparently it was Shift all along I should've held. Found it on some similar thread in the Spanish forum. I hope my pain helps out someone else out there. Tongue

I'm having no luck with regular Snatcher though, but the readme does warn that the SCC slot shouldn`t be the same as the mapped memory slot... which being that I'm counting on the MegaFlashRom means I guess I can`t expect it to work as is.

If the put 'S' in the manual, they don't mean SHIFT... so I'm very surprised there.

You're talking about this, right:

Quote:

If you have an MSX2/MSX2+ computer with only 64kB of RAM, the best
solution is MegaFlashROM+SD+512K, because it has support for the SCC+
sound chip and 512kB of RAM to run the mapper version of the patch. You
can flash disk images to the MegaFlashROM using the following commands:

OPFXSD ????????.DSK /D1 - for disk 1
OPFXSD ????????.DSK /D2 - for disk 2
OPFXSD ????????.DSK /D3 - for disk 3

The "????????" should be replaced with the name of the patched disk image.
After you flash the images into the MegaFlashROM+SCC+SD+512K, restart your
computer. If you want to use the SCC+ chip of the cartridge, hold "S"
while booting your computer. To enable the 512KB on-board RAM (if you run
the mapper version), hold "R" if your cartridge is inserted in SLOT1 and
"F" if your cartridge is inserted in SLOT2. If you want to run the game
with the SCC+ chip inside this cartridge and 512KB of RAM, you will need
to press "S" and "R" or "F" at the same time.

Looks like you should press both S and R/F at the same time while booting.

However, as Guillian wrote:

Quote:

Using EMUFILE (default method) does not need to hold any key to enable the SCC/SCC+
So if you are using MultiMente to load the game, just press RETURN on any of the .FDx files of the game. Then press reset and the game should boot.
In some configurations you may need to hold SHIFT while booting to get more free RAM.

So if you use EMUFILE (with MultiMente) you may indeed need to hold SHIFT.
