I also read your previous topic and seeing your question here I strongly suggest you to get someone helping you physically opening the machine that knows what he is doing. Not only you are risking breaking all plastic notches but also risking damaging the machine beyond repair.
Best case scenario is that only a drive belt needs te be replaced.
Worst case scenario is that the drive needs to be replaced, in that case please check this howto to see how familiar you are with this kind of repairs.
Previous topic? I’m not following you. Either way that link doesn’t explain how to safely open the MSX.
I ment these reactions :
Also when I tried to save my game in Metal Gear 2 I got this message: DISK ERROR DISK NOT READY. Any help would be much appreciated.
Wait a minute. I need a floppy disk to save my game progress?
This gave me the feeling that not only on a MSX way, but also on a troubleshooting way you're not an experienced repairman. I might be mistaken.
To open up your WSX, just unscrew the screws from the bottemplate. Then with a smal flat object (small screwdriver or such) you can very gently click the notches on these places (see picture) and open up the machine. It is best to do the side of the diskdrive as last since you need to bend the housing over the diskdrive eject button.
Great thanks. Odds are I need a new belt.
Better not to use a screwdriver to open the case. Buy a kit for opening mobile phones and tablets. It contains special tools made from hard plastic to open tightly closed cases. These tools don't leave scratches on the computer's case.
Don't unscrew the two screws directly underneath the cartridge slot. Only the screws in all for corners and the one in the front center.
See there's no disk in the drive so the eject button is pressed and not in the way of lifting the hood. Also have the power button pressed (it goes without saying you've not connected the device's leads cable to the wall.
Start lifting the top on the front right corner and go clockwise. Expect a lot of resitance on the back side.
Don't swipe the top off once it's completely loose. There are still some cables (ren-sha turbo, firmware on/off and reset button) connected to the mainboard. Unplug them.
Ok I got it open successfully, and made my way to the floppy drive belt without issue. The belt appears to be in good shape and is intact. When the drive tries to read a disk it will make an abnormal noise when reading a disk.
It's supposed to be on the botten of the drive between the motor and the big 'wheel'.
Sorry I just edited my post.
I’ve tried several different disks and the floppy drive isn’t reading any of them. The belt is intact, it is not broken or misaligned. What could be wrong?
