Dear All,

Happy new year.....

I saw several MSX interface types and adapters and I am thinking why we don't have an interface or adapter for full functional joystick..... I mean joystick that function F1, F2, F3, F4 and some letters. As you know this is required to play Metal Gear 1 & 2 ... Maze of Galious and some other games.

I have 2 adapters that allow me to use Playstation 1 or 2 and Sega Mega Drive joysticks for MSX .... But only will work like any ordinary joystick.

I remember I asked about this topic before and there was a solution... But only with a software and I believe it doesn't work with original cartridge.

So.... Is it possible to have an interface that works as follows:

- Insert original cartridge in slot 1
- Insert joystick interface in slot 2
- Plug Playstation 1 or 2 joystick in the interface or
- Plug Sega Mega Drive joystick (6 buttons) + L & R in the interface
- Turn on MSX computer
- Enjoy and pkay with (zero) settings

Is this possible.... I think yes ....

I need your comments ... This will be a great project.

I am the first to buy ... Not only one ... I need 3 units.

Waiting for the answers.

Regards,

Sniper

IMO wasting a slot for this is way too much hassle, as slots are a limited resource. Also, it would still be hacky (adding features to a game that doesn't already have them), and some patching of the game(s) may be needed despite the (so far hypothetical) additional hardware.

Joymega and patching games is the way to go IMO. (Also, i haven't tried sofarun, but if I've understod its features correctly, it only maps the buttons to functions in sofarun itself, it does not patch any games or add functionality into them)

Here's a video I made, check if that meets your needs:
SofaRun v2.3 - ZIP file, Keyboardless & Game Master 2 Metal Gear play

SofaRun patches the ROMs to map JoyMega buttons to whatever keyboard keys you want, with optional auto-fire. The JoyMega keys are not used by SofaRun itself.

Also... I have Sega Mega Drive joystick ... plus adapter to make it working with MSX.

Is this adapter required ? or shall I plug the joystick directly to MSX ?

*Never* plug a megadrive joypad directly to the MSX, or either the PSG or the joypad can be damaged (usually the latter). The joymega adapter must *always* be used.
