Sure. It was one of the points in the license agreement - to use gold-plated boards instead of HASL-finished ones.

Prices on ebay for the Carnivore2 have increased to $ 120 + $ 15 for shipping. I had contacted Maxiol in Russia via email and the price he sent was € 110, a little cheaper than ebay. The C2 should be identical, it is important that they are updated with the latest firmware!

They are € 100,75 and € 12,59 for shipping. So the price has been lowered again

I received mine with the latest firmware.

According to our group member who assembles the cartridges, several more have been recently assembled, so you can buy them from our Russian supplier. He will put them on Ebay soon.

Depends on what you can read in your PC.
I would avoid SD solutions if possible. Hasn't happened to me on msx, but in PC/Raspberry pi environments (µ)SD cards constantly prove how not suitable they are to run an OS on by just crashing.
Compact Flash cards have to be used with some care cuz of the pins. The deeper the slot, the less chance of bending pins.

CF is more robust of course. They were designed with robustness in mind, to be used in photo- and video- equipment, and have big number of rewrite cycles. I have an adapter too but mostly use it when i need to try something quickly, and mainly using CF card
