@andallaco Can you stop asking the same question in different threads? You have gotten answers already. If you have follow-up questions, then ask them in the same thread. The first one you posted in seems the most appropriate.

Also you keep citing software compatibility problems as supposedly an issue with the C2 but I’ve never heard of that. Stop spreading negative rumours about the C2. Lastly you are posting about the C2 (a competitor) in threads specifically about the MFR which is also not nice.

sorry, I'm only looking for opinions or experiences of using the MFR or C2, it is the first cartridge I buy, I have no experience in using it and I would like to buy the best one, considering the high cost.
I do not want to create disorder, I repeat, I am only looking for experience of use and advice. sorry again, no need to get angry. thank you

I understand there was no ill intent, but since you posted the same question in so many threads I don’t know where to reply, and my reply in another thread got no response either. Anyway I wrote a new more extended reply here.

Hi folks, Guillian,
Thanks for all the work than went into this wonderful cartridge !

I need to edit the cartridge's AUTOXEC.BAT file, which on read-only virtual drive A:.
As I understand, A:'s content comes from ROMDISK.DSK, which can be re-flashed with :
OPFXSD ROMDISK.DSK /ID

I figured that might be a standard floppy .DSK, and tried editing it from an emulator & tool (MSXDiskImage), but it appears invalid ; MSX-DOS says "Disk I/O error", NEXTOR says "Not a DOS disk".
I figured that might a Sunrise/Nextor hard disk .DSK, but the driver doesn't recognize it either.
In a hex editor, I noticed its structure is very close to nextor_tools.dsk, but tinkering some bytes didn't suffice.

@Guillian, quoting you :

You can't write to the ROM disk (drive ASmile. It is read only.
You must create a DSK file with the contents of the ROM Disk, modify it and then install it.

I mean update the ROM disk, rewriting its content in the flashROM.

I'm ready for this!
What's the best way to modify the original ROMDISK.DSK ?

You could use Disk Manager and possibly MSX Floppy Disk Manager.

Personally I just remove the ROM disk (Erase it from the recovery menu) and boot Nextor from the SD card, then you can just edit any files with your MSX Wink

Probably the easiest way is:
- Mount ROMDISK.DSK using MAPDRV. E.g.: MAPDRV H: ROMDISK.DSK
- Edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT
- Install the modified DSK

Also you can copy all the files from the ROM Disk to your microSD card. Then create a dummy file named NEXTOR.DAT. From now on, the cartridge will boot from the SD card in stead of the ROM Disk, so you can edit all the files you need.

Ho, so you can totally skip this drive/feature, and just rely on the SD card contents ? Interesting!

I installed MSX Floppy Disk Manager anyway (for science); it's a bit uselessly heavy and looks like it's been developed by a cobolist, but indeed seems able to edit the file! Thank you very much, I'll be messing around with it.

So easy, maybe the easiest ! The worst is that I read it in the Nextor manual, but totally forgot about this feature. Thanks a lot Guillian o/

The issue with NEXTOR.DAT is that this functionality had been removed from more recent Nextor kernels (which I personally prefer because they offer faster writing because allocation of new block when file increases is much faster).

Removed? Too bad. Found the rationale here; I'm still under Nextor 2.01 and don't need faster writing, but thanks for the heads-up, maybe I better anticipate by erasing the ROMDRV entirely.

The ROM disk is great for out of the box experience and new MSX users. Once you outgrow that there is really no need for it anymore (imho). Booting from the SD is just as fast plus you can have all software that is on the ROM disk and more…
